Pulling general van freight OTR, 10 speed, unless lots and LOTS of mountain driving.
Heavy freight, lots of mountains, 13.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Depends on the truck the transmission doesn't matter dont buy a truck because it is the transmission that you want trucks are a dime a dozen right now buy the truck that you need to do YOUR job or the one that's in better shape
Cattleman84 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I wanted a 13 when I bought... even had to replace mine. I replaced it with a 10 spd. Only drop a gear every once in a while. Pulls general freight just fine with the 10.
Rideandrepair and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
The 13 is more preferable. And might make a difference when it comes to selling.
But realistically. You're only using 8. I've never split the gears unless climbing hills.
But I understand most LOVE using all 18 gears or 13 gears.Rideandrepair and WREN Thank this. -
I’m buying 12 sp endurant autos lately though for the superior fuel mileage. Within 10 yrs 90% of trucks in the road will be these autos.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I’d get ecm downloads and pick the one with less emission troubles.. being a 2014 they were problematic and a bad one tends to stay a bad one often..
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Personally I loathe 10 speeds. So it's the 13 speed. Hopefully it has a double under so I can stop the earth from sliding.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Aren't these questions like this ...
There is a blue truck and a red truck for sale, which one should I get?
The trans is the least concern, the second post is asking the right questions.Cattleman84 and starmac Thank this.
