Don't remember where in VA but there is a small pilot with around 10 spots. All of them you have to go nose first then back out towards trucks fueling up.

Troutville, VA exit 150 on 81. Across from where the TA used to be. That place is a sick joke.

I had to go there a inspection left me out of HOS and DOT wouldn't let me do my 10 at the big scale house lot so that was my 1 and only time there.

I thinks that's who designed a lot of their "parking lots".

Beancounters. Smallest chunk of land. Maximum amount of spaces.
No consideration given to driver's long strenuous day where he just wants an easy pull-through. No consideration given to differing amounts of time needed to back into a space, sometimes causing lengthy lines of trucks around the lot with know-it-all super-truckers giving play-by-play on the radio instead of giving helpful pointers.
And yet, people flock to them.
I stopped at an Indiana rest area last night for a load check and bathroom break.
5 trucks there at the time, huge area with maybe 70-80 spaces open at 7:00pm.
15 minutes up the road, Love's was packed with more trucks circling, even though half those guys won't buy food there or take a shower. Some might not even leave their truck, but they gotta park at that chain no matter what.
Same scenario plays itself out on 55 in Illinois every night: a Love's gets packed to overflowing, while the local joint with huge open lot one exit south sits half empty at it's peak.
Oh well. I like the local places better anyway. More wide-open spaces for my kind. It's just a shame I can't usually get fuel there.

Yeah I try to avoid parking at Pilot altogether with the exception of a select few. Some of the "newer" ones are actually quite nice in all respects, same with Love's. I'll park at the new Pilot in Vega, TX anytime (I-40) and the one in Dunnigan, CA the other night was nice, quiet, and spacious. Seems like most of the lousy Pilots are out east and the crappy Love's locations are in the midwest and southwest...

Pilot men's room sometimes are nasty. People miss the toilet and poo all over the wall and floor. And some bath towel that someone used as toilet paper is laying beside the toilet.
