Why are EGR engines so problematic??

    I love my detroit engines, but jeez louise, are the Detroit Series 50 EGR engines so dam problematic. Every week its an issue and its always something related to the EGR system.

    Idling is the worst thing you can do to them. If you do idle bump it up.
    Do you mean the 14L series 60?.

    EGR pumps it’s own exhaust back into the cylinders. That means all the soot goes back in as well. This turns into a tar like substance and fouls everything up. Not a through explanation but you get the point.

    Not only that but coolant passes through the egr and it's one of the most prone areas for coolant to leak into the engine.

    Emissions - everything gets sent back through to get another chance to burn the un used vapors. Thank EPA .
