I'm sitting here in Tonopah, AZ....
The weather's nice.....65* out......and both sleeper windows are open to allow the fresh air in.....
Yet.....some drivers insist on idling the night away....
I can understand if it was below 40* or above 75* outside.......
Why do some of you drivers insist on idling all night long?
I realize there are exceptions....
- CPAP....
- Cooking....
- Charging your batteries back up....
But not everyone of those idling rigs need to idle all night long...
Why do you idle???????![]()

Well, my husband idled one night because we got stuck waiting for a packing house to open, and it was in the middle of an orange grove, and they made my allergies go haywire... boss #### near laughed his butt off about that one. (I still don't understand what was so funny?)
-
Im at the hook in Eloy and it's a beautiful night in the desert. My truck is off. I have no idea why this reefer truck next to me is running.
-
Well, it depend's on the weather. Most of the time I don't but under the right condition's the night air can make you get sick or like guyslady states about allergies. But normally if it's nice out I don't. I'd rather have the peace and quiet anyway from having to listen to the motor run all the time.
-
Guys, you are making me jealous. I miss running around out there in places where I can enjoy the peace...
-
Al must be parked next to you.....

Seriously....reefers do need to run....and if I have to be next to one...it might as well be two....I sleep better with "Reefers in Stereo" versus in mono.....
GuysLady and The Challenger Thank this. -
You guys wanna know something funny? My hubby's former employer still laughs about this to this day... he sent us in a different truck, and I could NOT sleep in that truck with it running. PERIOD. And I usually fell asleep before we got 100 miles.. (There's just something about it that puts me to sleep!) Anyways, I could not sleep in this truck It ran "wrong". And I told the boss that. And everyone brushed it off... until about 3 days later, after much complaining from me, when the blasted thing broke a rocker arm!

I am having power issues but I do not idle all night. I will let the low battery alarm come on and then shut off everything before I go to sleep. My APU can still run but fails to recharge the batteries when it is running on Air Conditioner. My refrigerator still runs off the inverter, stereo, Tv, Xbox, and the truck saves enough charge to start in the morning.
Then I have to idle for about 10 minutes to run the coffee maker in the morning. My idle right now is at about 6%. -
I always tried to shut it off it it was nice. As long as it was fairly quiet I was fine. When it got noisey, reefers, stereos, people banging on crap or hooping it up in the parking lot I would start it to drown the noise out. All in all I like many others get used to sleeping with it running and sleep better that way. I run a box fan at home so I can sleep. It just gets to quiet. At $3.00 a gallon these days I do a bit of tossing and turning now. I'm about ready to buy a small generator and A/C unit, or maybe a big bag of dry ice to throw in the cab.

Well for instance like right now, bout to go to bed at the Hook in San Antonio
and I killed my truck and everyone else is idling.
I can't sleep when every truck next to me is running, so I run mine to mute out
their noise. If I can, when possible, I will park away from everyone so I can kill
the truck and go to bed.
