Many years ago I had a similar experience as a company driver for a large carrier. A couple of additional trips to CVS last year finished me off.
They are on my DNL list. Along with HEB and South Coast Baking.
As Frank said I do it my way.

Hourly guys tried to extort a lumper fee from me & my partner. We unloaded the truck ourselves even though it was their job. We had to turn & burn.

You know if you were set up for that it could work out. I met a guy from Montana in NY. This guy was organized. He had all his load locks and there were a lot of them in a specially made rack just inside the trailer door and an electric pallet jack that he told me cost $3000.
He was equipped !
He was doing the same run over and over though.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
To this day I will not step foot into a Albertsons grocery store.
Pulled a refer for a number of years, switched to a tanker in 2003 and haven't looked back. -
I am sure you have a very good reason for saying this. To start with it is a grocery warehouse but I am sure they did a number on you.
I think this is the solution though. If enough truckers refused to take loads for these impossible companies then they would change real fast.
All the time they can do what they like this merry go round will go on forever.JimmyWells and tscottme Thank this. -
I will admit I made good money running ice pack chicken into Rogers poultry inLA , getting a load of produce back to Florida or Atlanta if was to a market instead of a grocery distribution.
But those chicken hauler days are gone.izifaddag Thanks this. -
Albertsons treated drivers worse than dogs. They could care less about your schedule or your time.

I am adding them to my list right now.Lepton1 Thanks this.

Fortunately they aren't all bad. Aldis for example are a pleasure to deal with. It isn't the middle of the night either.
However when you see it is a grocery load your chances of wishing you were somewhere else go sky high.
Thinking of tankers myself. -
For me it's about both, great money and being treated decently. I could go back to pulling produce and dealing with produce sheds and grocery warehouses and produce markets where the money is good but in treated like some ex con drug addict. Or i can continue pulling this flat bed where I'm making even better money and treated like a normal person.
Yesterday this customer brought me breakfast cause i had to stage overnight on the lot. Last night the crew stuck around after dark and we had a couple beers while talking shop. This morning the same crew brought me coffee at 6 am while we waited for the sun to come up to start unloading. Just now at the other end one guy was sent out to get lunch for everyone and the foreman made sure he got my order and refused to accept any money for it.Teivel VP, Paddlewagon, Dino soar and 10 others Thank this.
