Hey now; I'm sitting here on a couple of days off and watching the news. I see a truck driver hit an OPP cruiser in a the construction zone on the QEW in Ft. Erie, ON.
Now, the cop wasn't hurt, (Probably scared the bejesus out of him!); but the cruiser is a write off. My main question is, "Why was the driver going so fast through the construction zone?"
I see this all the time, in the U.S. and Canada. Why are we speeding? Is that load so important that we can't slow down to 55mph or 80 kph for a few minutes just to make sure that we get through zones safely?
Just thought I'd throw that out. Let's make an effort to slow down and be safe through those construction zones.
Why so freakin' fast?

What scares me in the new 4 laning around my place is the tri-axle dump trucks.
They speed pretty good. Transports here seem to follow const-zone limits alright.
We have an MTO officer, "Gracie"-puts the fear'o God in anyone.
We don't have the OPP guarding workers here.
I've seen the OPP cut off vehicles to stop them. -
I've been warned by OPP twice to stop impeding traffic, because I was doing the posted 80kph speed whilst all others were doing 100kph or more. Sometimes OPP aren't as worried about the construction guys, as they are about the potential crash hazard of one or two drivers following the law, when no one else is.

This almost sounds like a truck driver story. You have been warned twice by the OPP for obeying the law/posted speed limit. My BS meter is very high at this point.
-
Uh huh. Do you run much in ON on the 401? -
Not too many 80 KPH zones on the 401 , I was pulled over by the OPP on HWY 17 for pulling over to let the build up of traffic get by when pulling a GRAVEL CRUSHER and told not to do it again

My thought was LOT SAFER for me to pull over ( wide shoulder ) than the idiots pulling travel trailers passing me on narrow 2 lane , double line with hills and curves but Mr OPP though differently. -
I'm referring to the 80kph construction zones. -
Ok well that still is hard to BUY as the OPP are inforcing the NO SPEEDING in Construction Zones not encouraging you to SPEED
-
Which is why I was surprised to have an OPP truck beside me, officer with his hand and arm out the passenger window, motioning me to speed up. -
Maybe he needed you to get his QUOTA or the DOUBLE the $ if caught in active construction zone.
