I work for a company that requires an annual DOT inspection every quarter and it costs $65 to have the TA do it. They will accept a passing level 1 performed by DOT instead. Does anyone know if DOT will do a level one inspection if you ask them to?

Uh.. the law requires an annual DOT inspection form and sticker to be with your truck at all times. I don’t think a level 1 applies to this. No level 1 I’ve ever received from an officer anywhere did I receive an annual Federal DOT inspection form or sticker............

From your title the answer is yes.

Park at a truck stop close to a scale that has a barn for inspections. Preferable one that is not "banning California"
Don't take a trailer if possible bobtail into a scale. Go park, ask the nice officers you'd like to volunteer for a level 1.

It will be on your terms not a surprise from them. Make sure your ready before you go in. make sure truck has been serviced tires in good shape the whole sha-bang. Have 5th wheel greases just to add some glamor to it.
    Get your sticker and leave.

That would be a California or state sticker? I still believe you need a Federal DOT form and sticker and state scales don’t hand those out... at least in my 18 years out here I’ve never seen that....

I did this a few times at the Banning scale. As a company driver with a new 2011 670 Volvo. Love them Quarterly Vehicle Inpections.

Go-to a truck stop pickup the annual inspection form and bring it with you .

If your really want the coop to do your annual.

A lvl 1 is slightly different than his annual inspection sticker.

    Title of post is deceiving

This is the dumbest way to try to save 65 bucks I have ever heard. The right officer can find something wrong with a brand new truck if he wants.

    The answer is, maybe.

It is up to each individual scale or officer. I have been inspected on request and denied, with the reason given on denial is that they don't want a truck specially prepped for a roadside inspection.

When I was denied they did ask if I had a problem that the company would not fix that I wanted to get written up, and said if that were the case they would inspect the truck.

A level 1 inspection is valid for quarterly or annual inspections, just keep a copy of the inspection report.

An individual company may require an inspection from a "approved" vendor and not accept a roadside inspection for your monthly, quarterly, or annual inspection. this is completely at the companies choice and discretion.
