Wrong here too about Safety Dept NOT being opened at night. The Safety Dept would ALWAYS HAVE either a voice mail or answering machine 24/7/365. And in extreme emergencies, a standby person for serious accidents.
Will he be fired?

Come on man - this is nothing; and there is about a 99.999% chance that it will always be nothing. Why dwell on the highly improbable?
At any time, in any of our lives, the very worst or very best possible thing can happen; but rarely, if ever, does. Example; he could have gotten struck by lightning when he got out to look at the mailbox, or he could have found a winning powerball ticket on the ground. Either are possible - neither are likely.
This is absolutely nothing to worry about. -
I agree, I would not stress out over this too much. He called dispatch and was up front, who knows, maybe safety has already resolved this issue and he is being issued a letter right now. For a new driver, or any driver for that matter, hitting anything is not good, but if your gonna hit something I guess a mailbox is the way to do it. I would think that it's not a fireable offence. My guess, which is only that, that there would be no video focused on a mailbox in the driveway to a business, and just because it's in LA does not mean every biz has video security, quite the oppisite in fact. Anyway Leeannmarie, dont wig out too much.

Wow. I wasn't expecting this kind of response. Thank you for all of your input. I am not clear if he called his safety department or dispatch. I do know that he spoke to someone at the company, but I don't know who. Seriously, this was his first actual day on the job and I don't have it all figured out yet. His company told him to take pictures of the mailbox and to contact the business who owns the mailbox and let them know that KLLM would be taking care of the damage. I'm sorry, I guess that I left that part out. KLLM did not tell him just to leave the scene of the accident.
I just have read on this forum how people get fired right away for little things and then their DAC is compromised so I am pretty worried that he could be finished before he really gets started. -

Oh yeah, the mailbox type. I asked him what kind it was; was it one of those big ones with many boxes or a single one. He told me that it was a single one, but not like a single one that you would find at a residential house. So I really have no clue what kind of mailbox that he is talking about.
