Ac does not work. nobody knows what’s wrong with it. I gave up. I will go with 3000 watts inverter connected to my batteries, 300amp fuse, 1/0 awg cable and 6000 BTU window AC unit installed at the back of my sleeper. will cut the hole and install it, secure it etc. I have 4 batteries. Do you think alternator will manage to load batteries so that the whole system works ? what can go wrong ? I plan to use that AC all the time ..when I drive and idle …

If you are going to have the truck running the whole time, why can't you use the trucks A/C system? get the right person to get the rights parts in it.

Not much can go wrong with AC. It's either a power problem, compression problem, or a refrigerant flow problem....sometimes an airflow problem.

What a rickety trash setup
little cat 500, diesel guy454, AModelCat and 3 others Thank this. -
If it is a flat top truck you could go with a rv ac unit

That setup is likely to have every dot officer that sees it start to drool over doing inspections. Honestly if your AC is not working and you have checked everything on the electric and engine side then have them check the blower motors, blend doors and actuators. You can also have them test the actual switch. If its a newer rig the CCU can have a glitch and require it to be reset via said CCU. What your proposeing is pretty likely to cause a fire. Inverters dont like handleing huge loads like that constantly and is highly likely to damage your alt and/or batterys and maybe even wireing and computer

window unit instalation will work fine if u pay attention to all the variables. first thing is u will need more than a 6000btu go with a 8000 minimum and mount it high as possible. most come with remotes but most important is to mount at a fairly steep angle. window units gain efficency when level so the drained condensation helps cool the coils. while on your 10 or 34 everything will be fine as long as u park with the right angle, nose up or level but not nose down. window units will work going down the road but when u go down a steep grade water may come bac into the wall. as far as power goes 2000 watts is more than enough. currently im running 10000btu and while it works on my 2000 watt inverter i run it off a generator. a gallon of gas all night verses diesel is a no brainer. an apu is more conservative than idling but not as cheap as a little gas. remember if u carry gas ur only allowed 8 gallons total. forget about a 300 watt fuse as all breaker are on the cord for the a/c, use it and u wont have to worry about sizing and the unit will always be protected.
