I've made over 920 DH miles in order to get home to spend time with my family. With many drivers head home for the holiday break, I guess the brokers / customers are in a panic. Now, I'm starting to see some pretty tempting LDs with decent $$ but had to run / stay out during holidays. I'm not ready to head back out but if that "insane" number comes up...????
Winter FB/SD rate!

I pull a dry van, and I'm watching the boards for the same thing

Yes it has been kinda goofy with rates going up some.
I dead head from Columbus,In. up to Mn.. Parking the trk. at dealership for it's annual rest.
Funny thing is, I was talking with my wife about a friend of ours turning down a high paying ld.
The reason is he wants to be with his cousin and her little ones for Christmas. I told him tell the little ones Merry Christmas. early.
She said if I got a ld. offer like that, I better take it and catch a plane later to come home. Gotta love her..windsmith Thanks this. -
I had a broker email me about my truck posting. His email subject line was "Dillon, MT to Blue Earth, MN -- I will pay you whatever you want!!" haha. Tis the season. I love friday load boards sometimes.
SHC Thanks this. -
You can definitely see better rates as there are a lot of trucks parked for the week. The big gamble can be is the load and unload. They are probably short staffed or on shortened hours so don't be surprised if you have to sit longer.
If the rate is great sometimes you have to take it. I remember hearing about my grandfather working Christmas one year he made more working the one night than he would in a normal week because of the way the stat pay, weekend premium and night shift premium all built on each other so it was understandable to work it. -
If someone wishes to pay me a rate high enough to equal one full, 30 day month OFF, I will work on Christmas.
SHC and rickybobby Thank this. -
If it wasn't for the kids, holiday really don't mean a zip to me. With that being said, after what I've been through to make it home this winter holidays, it better pay pretty #### nice to head right back out again.

Ok, I got bought! Anyone else? Loading out on 12/27 (got to tarp the load - whoo hoo!!$$!!) heading out to southern Cal.
-
Nothing yet. Got laughed at when I bid a load up 10% above what was offered for a 12/26 p/u. We'll see who's laughing come Wednesday

I suspect the surge is over for dry freight and it will be slow for a few weeks, at least for retail goods. Good luck. I hope to find something decent to get me out of Waco on Thursday, but my inbound rate paid nearly round trip, so I can bounce out if I need to get into a better lane for Friday freight.
