I was browsing the trucking jobs on craigslist yesterday and saw an ad for Roadmaster CDL schools. They are hiring instructors in my hometown and I may be interested in the position. Has anyone here ever worked for them? What did you think about it? The ad didn't mention what the salary is, so does anyone have any idea how much they pay? Thanx for any info you can give me.
Working as instructor at roadmaster?

Were there any requirements for experience...I'm sure that their pay scale may vary according to years of driving in...may not , but it's possible. Good Luck !

3 yrs OTR experience and can't have X number of tickets in last 5 yrs. Standard stuff for any trucking job.baha Thanks this. -
Might be a good gig....be at home every night...I would guess the pay would be the deal breaker with you though , at 33 you still have kids/mortgage/etc I'm just assuming...most instructors I've seen are retired drivers like me...you know "old fart's".........
Good Luck though..beats OTR..,...

i was thinking that it could be a fun and rewarding job, but only if the money is right. I went ahead and filled out the app, so hopefully someone will call me tomorrow so I can get all the details.

You are right about that ....I think it would be too. You would be able to really nhelp folks out with real world advice....that's what newbies need too> The more the better. They need to understand trucking is work , just like any other career. It's not BJ & the "Bear" , Movin On , or Smokey and the Bandit.....

I was an instructor in '04/'05. For the most part, very enjoyable work. It can grind on you though, especially days where all your students just can't seem to shift correctly. You are home nightly, however, any good school will accommodate students who only have Sundays or evenings to attend. So, you might be doing a class up to 11 pm. Pay is not great, but OK.

and the pay,
is disappointingly low......8thnote Thanks this. -
An instructor should have 10 years of experience, that's part of the problem, inexperienced drivers teaching inexperienced students.

Beg to differ with you a bit SHO-TYME...If we were talking about a "trainer" in a working situation I would totally agree. But we aren't , we are talking about a school/classroom situation. After 4 years of experience the OP should have been able to have seen enough to "instruct" a student , in a classroom or in the field...but not in a working environment like some of the beginner companies that use drivers with 1 years experience as trainers....that is wrong and shouldn't be legal.
He has more than enough experience to be an instructor at a school....at least the way I see it...the OP can give the basics just as good as you are able to with your 25 years and me with my 33 years..... basics are basics..that's all newbies really get in school anyway...the "learning" really begins once they start working...that's when they require an experienced hand ( of at the very minimum of 10 years experience ) to show them how it needs to be done safely.8thnote, Logan76, cetanediesel and 1 other person Thank this.
