    Hey Buds,

(crazy question) but had to ask.

I want to work 9-10 mths out of the year and take off 2. How difficult would this be?
    • Would you be able to arrange this with a company?
    • How tough would it be to start over with new company (assuming you did this every year)?
I'm semi-retired and stir crazy (OR JUST plain crazy). However, for all intensive purposes, have all my faculties in place.

    Thoughts / Opinions?

    Appreciate your constructive input...

    Thanks !

Where ya at? If you are up north or somewhere it snows you might be able to find a construction driving gig with a voluntary lay off for a few months in the winter?

Nooooooo. I moved up North for work (Philadelphia PA) I'll never leave Florida again no matter how bad it gets here with yankees, rising water, hot weather lol. I bet you could work something out running a dump truck a few months at a time when they are busy. There are a ton of em around Tampa and I imagine everywhere else in the state too. You won't make a killing doing but it sounds like that might be okay with you for the correct working terms.

    #### living out west, I am a east coast mentality kind of guy. I never drive a dump truck for a living before but I know some guys that really like it. I know the pay isn't typically the highest because depending on what you are hauling the loads don't pay anything. I just had 13 triaxle dump loads of dirt brought down to Tampa from Brooksville and it was one like $500 to ship. Now before anyone thinks I'm nuts shipping dirt it's because clay is next to impossible to find in Florida. That being said the owner of the two trucks that did the runs couldn't have been making much if anything on that and I know the drivers usually work on a percentage of load. I know a lot of the dumptruckers in Tampa that are making money are running like 18 hours a day since they for some reason don't get looked at by the dot.

NO, i want OTR, and do it 9-10mths out of year.
    • Why can't you just quit every 10mths? (not sure if that would create a problem with co. or not) ?
    • Since they don't CARE about who's in the Seat,...why would they care?
As long as they got freight moving ...AND qualified drivers to move it ???

You will make less money otr at most of the megas but you make a good point. Everyone on here says they will hire anyone so you should be able to quit every winter and rehire in the spring.

You know I just thought about. You could probably get seasonal work hauling grapefruit and oranges up north. I live in the middle of orange groves and berry fields so I don't know how I just now thought of that lol.
