I’m just in awe in the amount of trucks that don’t use a CB. After having one for a couple of months I can’t imagine not having it.

I’ve also realized that I need to get my 880 professionally set up. My range sucks. I’m already considering a new unit in the future. Yes. I have range envy.

Radio is not your range problem...I could get that 880 to talk and receive up to 30 miles local like it is... Problem is with the antenna set-up, but there may-not be much you can do about it on a Big Truck with all the height regulations and mounting options.

You can have a radio that talks 1 mile, or 100 miles. Todays drivers either do not have a radio, do not turn it on, or just do not reply. It is the older truckers who will talk to you, but we are becoming few and far between. Now we must put up with the newbie drivers that have more electronic devices to occupy their time instead of the radio.

You should have antenna envy, not range envy.

It is like real estate - antenna, antenna, antenna!

    BUT ...

    Jessie said it well.

    I don't know, do you.

for 15 minutes I talked to South Africa on 1 watt this morning with my random wire out the window - I think it is 20 feet long. That was on 40 using an DDC SDR FPGA setup.

The other night I had the underground antenna working again so I hit 80 meters running with the gold dust twins and made a few contacts in the far east.

    How did you do?

I’d have thrown a 2 watt deadkey and cut you off with 30 gauge wire underground less than two feet long.
