Backed into one of the trucks of the company I work for and damaged a light, hood and a scratch on the bumper. It is a 2019 freightliner cascadia. Hood and driver side head light needs to be replaced. My boss never fired me because he understood it was dark outside and raining so I couldn’t see properly. He said he would make me pay something. Is this going to affect me in the long ran? Seems like he isn’t going to get insurance involved.

Sounds like it's going to be off the record. However, I am thinking your boss intends to collect more from you than the cost of the backing Incident damage.

Not his first rodeo, as they say.

you might be paying the deductible. just hope it is not a $5,000 deductible.

i have backed in all sorts of weather and dense fog, and very dark docks, on my last job.

i always got out and looked, even though i had been to those places a zillion times.

ya never know what might be blocking the docks.

this is when you roll down the windows (both) wipe them dry and slowly back up. i also used my 4 way flashers as "some light" and it always worked for me.

good luck, let us know what he finally does to you.

Thanks a lot for the respond. That’s exactly what I’m thinking he’s planing to do. Might move to a different company if he tries to take too much from me.

what you need to realize, it might be an accident "off the books", but he can certainly put that into your personnel file.

which means, he can tell other employers you had an accident, backing up, in the rain if he really wants to screw you.

His mom was waiting for me to park my truck so she could lock up the yard gate so I kinda felt being rushed so I didn’t take my time and eventually backed into the truck

Instead of wondering why not ask what it is going to cost you??

    A complete hood is expensive.

well, now you know, take your time, if someone is rushing you (or you feel like it..) STOP, and calm down.

i usually slowed down or stop myself if anyone rushed me. i am(was) the one driving, not them...

never let anyone rush you or tell you to speed up.

you have to account for your time. if you get caught in a lie, you will not get another job you are applying at.
