    Reefer Trailer Weight

    Anyone pull a 53' utility 3000R or Great Dane between an 04 - 07 know the empty trailer weight. I am looking to purchase a reefer in the future and researching the weight between the two. If you could list the weight and specs especially one equipped with a Thermo King SB210

    I'm still looking too...I'd be curious to know this information myself.

    This will be my first time buying a reefer, but I've heard that the weight also depends on how much water the insulation in the walls has absorbed over the years...so what it weighed new is most likely a light weight and not what it weighs now.

    Might be worth it to take it somewhere and get it weighed on a scale to be sure what you're getting.

    I second that point. You get too old and then you have some dents, dings, body work, patches, misc. crap attached to it that isn't being used, dead animals stuck between the duals.... maybe a better question is: what is the gross weight you want to put in the box? I'd venture a guess and say you could get about 45k in each, give or take depending on your tractor configuration. I run on super singles so my projections might be a bit askew.

    The reason I am asking is I cant put 45K in any box unless its a 13K or less box. I have a heavy tractor (22K w/half tank fuel) so trying to get the lightest between the two. Every pound helps but if I know before hand that lets say the average weight of one and I go to buy one take it to a scale and weigh it and its 500lbs more than it should be I need to find out why or pass on it. Also I have been hearing that the utilities are lighter than the great danes would like to know if it is true. I have seen some used listed for sale with weight listed around 14300lbs. And of course I am trying to avoid the ones with patches and a lot of ding and repairs. Mainly focused on 06 and 07 models. As far as moisture I have been looking into moisture meters and infrared cameras to check the levels. After being but ######### by the dealer on this truck I am being very cautious on buying a trailer

    your best bet to get an accurate empty weight would be to call the trailer companies, if they cant help you then I dont know what to tell you other than to take one and weigh it out. The great dane with an older thermo king unit on it weighed around 13k if my memory serves me right. And the utility weighed about the same. I used to be able to scale out 45000. I was driving a 2003 century with aluminum rims if that helps.

    the 53 dane with the tk unit i pulled last winter scaled at 13,400....cant help on utility.....mines a 48

    Get them to pull the dang thing to a set of scales, and mail you the certified receipt. If they're serious about selling it, that should be a no brainer...

    Most Utility trailers are pretty light depending, of course, on how they were spec'd.

    I have a '95 48' that weighed 15,300 with the unit. I pulled the unit and plugged the hole now it weighs 13,500. The last carrier I was with had the lightest Utility's I have found... 12,500 w/o a unit.

    My Pete is on a weight loss program right now... I'm going to pull the 6" stacks and just run a 'gopher choker' exhaust. The raised roof sleeper is going in favor of a small flat top...I've already built and installed a 12" tapered end bumper to replace the 18" Texas piece and I'm pulling the 4 horns, etc. to save every pound I can.

    I get paid by the CWT so light weight makes me more money...

    question krooser, how much doe's that peterbuilt weight, is it a standard 1 bunk sleeper 260 inch wheel base, let us now the before and after weight you get , thanks

    What are you gonna do with the 6" stacks and what kind are they?
