That's an ex-Air Products truck. They're a private mega carrier just like Wal Mart if they've got good routine maintenance standards like Wal Mart it's probably a good truck for the money.

Just a Quick refresher on my experience with Baskin, since buying the truck I changed oil & filters, dropped the oil pan and pulled rod and main bearings to check for wear. Both bearings show little wear, changed all air filters, just received my new cab card and Ifta yesterday, Installed new brakes as I had seen they needed replacing when I bought the truck. Will start running the truck within a couple of days, still stocking installing CB and miscellaneous. I will let you know how the truck runs out.

Well, I called Skip again this morning and he said that Air Products who sold him the truck was sending one of their wreckers from Memphis to come pick it up. They were going to fix it at their facility there and then give it back to him. He said that they would probably have to have it machined at the CAT plant somewhere to fix the small leak in the oil return line. Then they would send it back to him so that he could sell it. He did mention again that he has 400 other trucks on his lot that are all fleet vehicles, which we were welcome to look at.
So tht was my experience with Baskin's. Neither good nor bad. I purchased that 2001 Peterbilt 387 with 1.2 million miles on it today. Paid 16500. Has a CAT 500 hp in it. Runs great. All the brakes were just done last year. The old timer hasn't been running it much since then. Had the head redone at 80+k. Heavy duty cam put in. The rear was done a year or 2 ago. new rubber. Needs some TLS on the interior, but it runs smooth and straight. I'm very happy that it didn't work out with Skip. Saved the trip, and I think we got a much better truck.
Thanks for all the helpful input. -

$7500 for a truck?
Holy wow... -
Anyone have any more news to share? Reading from reviews posted, lots of stuff misadvertised, trucks being pulled out from under people after securing financing, calling ahead to verify the truck is there, then driving or flying in immediately after to be told the truck has been sold. Lots of ethical questions here. The BBB rating doesn't mean much to me any more after I believe I read a story how the BBB was calling companies and offering them to pay a fee to give them an A rating. From what I can see about the reviews on BBB:
1. Customer complain
2. Business replies
3. Either the customer replies and is not satisfied and the BBB says "Business tried in good faith to make things right."
4. OR, Customer doesn't reply and case is closed.
Regardless, they have an A or AAA rating. -
I just found out a buddy got his truck from Baskins. He's leased to Landstar and has already ran it for a year, no problems.

I bet he didn't put a blindfold on and pin the truck he wanted like a pinata either. Seems like that's how some people do it then get mad when it breaks down and act surprised.
fortycalglock, icsheeple and mc8541ss Thank this.
