I hold heartely agree if i was to do it on my own as a total independet i wouldn't even start till i had a couple of good contracts direct ship. And the figure i was useing as a bottom line was figureing on a lease to some one like landstar. if i was an independent i wouldn't touch any ting less than 2.00 or better by the time you figure the overhead of your authority and insurance and taxes you will loose money any cheaper. I have known many a independent that dead head back rather than haul cheap freight. It makes the brokers think twice about there profit they make off the truck. Because like Brickman said they try to get it moved for what they think they can instead of what it pays and then take a reasonable profit.

I have many time moved dead head rather than haul something for nothing, I usually watch close where i am going and how to get out of that area. Sometimes they will pay extra to go into an area thats tough to get out of so do your planning, but don't haul for no profit to you!

Have you ever heard of Donnie Schnieder or Jay Swift? They were a pig farmers until they found my load board and now they own some of the largest carriers in Mexico. Maybe you have seen their company? Schniedero and Swifto. I can't mention the name of my load board here, but lets just say that once you type the name of the site into your browser, you get $500.00 credited to your paypal account immediately and then you get $250.00 for everytime after that. Some people don't even haul freight off of our board, but just sit around clicking on our site and earn thousands a week! Hey just trying to help you drivers out. Anything I can do.

This is the longest thread that I have completely read through. Great thread and great posts. And Atrucker was hilarious. Wish he would write a book - I might buy it.
