I been trucking off and on since I was in high school. Im 50 now and would like to go back into it hauling for local farmers and fruit processing plants in MI. im really not wanting to do run 365 days a year just through pack and maybe winter if i can find the work. Just trying to get another revenue stream going. I already have a marine repair business for summer that my kids can help run most of the summer and it shuts down in the fall. I only want to run intrastate.
What I propose to do is get a 3 or 4 axle dump and haul anything from fill dirt to fertilizer to grain. I also can run a local farmers 4 axle van for cherry pack, then rent a flatbed and for moving apples around all plating 115000#, more you haul the more you make. Then I can pull a reefer with processed apples through the fall into winter months if it all works out right.
The big question is, Ive run everything over the last 30 years OTR vans, reefers, dumps, tankers, flatbeds, lowboys but always for someone else never my own authority and off and on. Family situations and better paying jobs have come along 1 time or another. Never had an at fault accident, and i have one 5mph ticket 2 years ago in a 4 wheeler. Im getting quotes for 12 grand for intrastate. does this sound right? Thats for the standard $1,000,000 plpd and $100,000 load and 22,000 truck and trailer and trailer switching.
