pre plan your trks. for 2 weeks. Pray for no major repair issues.
Do yu have any one in your office that helps or just you?
Years ago I worked for a fleet owner. We kinda did our own thing but her trks.
She would just take off for holiday and have a person she trusted answer the phone. She had checks made out before baseing our pay from the year before. Then would settle up any difference when she got back281ric Thanks this. -
Ive got two ways Ive had to cover:
i go hunt for 3 weeks in October. The two to three drivers (obliviously this is a real small fleet) run hard in September, knowing that Im looking for minimal involvement for three weeks. they usually take the time off also. If they end up having to run, here is my back up:
I've been able to establish a relationship with another fleet owner, when hes driving or vacationing I've had to cover his trucks. Only here or there, if he cant get on the computer, Ill cover his truck that got empty. Vice-Versa. No money has every been exchanged.
we know where the truck need to get and what it needs to make.NavigatorWife and 281ric Thank this. -
That or he could buy my trk. and hire me as an office person with a nice salary and benefits...
Then I could dispatch his trks. and he can take a holiday all the time or start another bussiness.....NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Not much to add other than plan ahead and make your drivers as independent as possible. Not only helps for covering your absence, but takes a lot of pressure off even on normal work days. Of course it sort of helps if they are mostly responsible and have some self discipline in the first place.
Back in my auto repair days, I worked for one shop owner who's extended family would spend a month in FL in an RV during the summer. He would shut down the shop for a week and join them. Everyone got a vacation LOL. He did pay us a bonus that was an average of the previous year's paydays to make it a paid week off.
Oddly, that was the same place where I really learned the value of being in control of your time and time off. It was the first shop I'd ever worked at that closed at 6pm sharp. Seriously. If your butt wasn't cleaned up and standing near the door at 5:59, you risked being locked in. Everyone worried about losing money not being able to wrap up jobs or take in small stuff at the end of the day. But you know what? We made more money by keeping strict hours.281ric Thanks this. -

maybe you can get Bayou to cover for you If your drivers survive, they may even like you better when you return, lol.

It's one of the pitfalls of having more than one truck. In the past I've taken my laptop along and could count on working at least part of my vacation. This is one of the many reasons I am just a one truck wonder now.

I remember, not too fondly, of dispatching from a condo in Colorado before going skiing for the day.
