so I currently work in the oilfield working a 15/6 rotation but the oilfield is very up and down and I'm always looking for other ways to make some cash, so I was thinking of buying a day cab or diesel truck and doing some extra hauling on days off or having my girlfriend do runs while I'm working how feasible would this be?
O/O on my off days?

How long will she work?

that's still yet to be seen honestly but I'm trying to just get a scope of things as far as this O/O thing works out, because I'm trying to get a off shore job working 35/35 and want to make extra money on days off.

35/35 "part time o/o" is more doable than 15/6 imo. With the latter you're looking at 6 days a month to work. I don't see how you'd ever manage to do more than cover some truck expenses, if that, in such a short period. Unless your girlfriend is a go-getter, self motivated, problem solver type that could keep things going while you're working that 15.

You do understand, that you will have to log On Duty while at your primary job in your logs.

yeah the 35/35 or 14/14 is mainly what I'm aiming for to make this whole part time O/O thing work, I just want to know if its possible or.do the company's you drive for want you to always be available? and would hot shotting be best for sometHing like this or something else?
-
First order would be figure out if there's any profit in it. General freight, more than likely no. Think about all those inbound truckloads paying high dollar and how that affects outbounds. Oilfield work with a tractor trailer, maybe. Hotshot, maybe. Leasing on with a company that allows that kind of flex could be a problem as most of them tend to treat contractors like regular employees.

o/o may not be the best option if you are planning to cut 50% of the available running time right off the bat, before you even account for a few days here and there you will want to take off. You still have the full time fixed expenses, payments, insurance, licencing, etc. It might be better to find a company and tell them your situation, tell them maybe if they have a daily run and can work you in but be up front about your plan.

Have you been able to keep more than 1 lady friend happy in the past, having more than 1 trucking job could be harder than that?
