Hello fellow drivers. Currently I have a 2007 international 9400i eagle with a cummins isx engine. Was looking into possibly getting a newer truck but I've heard nightmares. Especially with cummins and egr coolers egr valves. Was wondering witch moter would be best to look into Detroit or mercades? Mainly haul dry van with windows. 10 speed or 13? Looking to get some opinions here and input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you have an 07, you have an EGR.

Pre-emission Detroit series 60 12.7 liter engines are pretty solid.

Out of all the new stuff, detroit seem to have it figured out, cummins really kicked themselves in the ###. Mercedes get a bad rap but are a decent motor but a little gutless. A Cascadia with the dd15 and auto box easily gets 8-9mpg at 62mph, loaded with 40K. There is a reason most mega fleets use them and are replacing all the broken down ProStars/Cummins with Cascadias.

Out of the brand new trucks, some are going with Pro-star again, apparently, at least what I'm seeing at Hirschbach and Heartland, and there are others where I'm seeing that, too. Reading 'The Trucker' and figures for new truck sales, it seems that way, too, although over 1 of 3 new trucks sold, well over, BTW, are Freightliner.
Probably part of the reason is the integrated idle solution International has that I have seen, although FL has a similar factory equipped EPU that uses the condenser mounted on the back, and takes up less space under the bunk Transport America bought a bunch and ferried them up (well, Truck Country did) through the local affiliate that isn't even a Frieghtliner dealer, so I looked at several dozen of them.
Cummins is working with International to fix that mistake, so we will see. The different companies have been playing leapfrog for al ong time, and the last time it was the other way was the 2004 and 2005 Detroit 14 liters with EGR that cost FL customers.
Volvo and Paccar are pushing their engines over Cummins purportedly due to warranty issues, while FL will sell either ISX or DD Detroit. That varies by dealer, some seem to stock more ISx engines, and others, like the lease company that supplies trucks to us has all Detroit. International is pushing theirs too, but they will sell the Cummins to those who need a big block. -
The big fleet I contract to has less problems with the DD15 than any of the other new engines. My own experience has been that Freightliner and Detroit does a good job at standing behind their product. If I had to replace my '09 Cascadia I'd give serious consideration to a pre-EGR engine.

I would go with Detroit that's why they paint them green makes ya money. Mercedes is junk no power on hills egr goes out often like every 75 to 90k. Detroit is a much better motor cheaper parts earlier to work on. Mercedes everything seems crammed in under the hood at least on the one I had it did.Detroit has its flaws but I believe that you be much happier with a Detroit.

I LIKE MY PACCAR ENGINE IN MY T660. IT HAS OVER 500k AND HAS NEVER HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS. BUT I'M VERY PROACTIVE ON MAINTENANCE, AND DO AL MY OWN MAINTENANCE. DOESN'T USE A DROP OF OIL BETWEEN SERVICES, DOING WELL. I AVG 6.8 MPG LAST 90 DAYS BUT I RUN HARDER THAN A LOT OF DRIVERS MY CRUISE SPEED IS BETWEEN 70 AND 75 MPH. VERY EASY ENGINE TO MAINTAIN.
