So first thing this morning I was told to be at a shipper at 7AM, upon arriving i find out there was four trucks that had spent the night on location ok no big deal but I needed to get out the road so I pulled into there drive and thru the gate where I got to meet the nicest guy I had ever met before😕 he starts yelling across the parking lot throwing his hands in the air, so I'm already kinda hard of hearing so I get out walk over and the guys yelling how he never gave me permission to pull into is lot.

Now it's first thing and I'm not wanting to start my day off going bad but as this guys yelling at me as i'm trying to explain to him there's no place for me to stop or park without blocking the entire drive or the road I know I've about had all this guys mouth I can stand.....BAM I had enough I went off on this guy it took everything I had not to knock his teeth down his throat in 12 years of driving I've never had a shipper talk to me like that and I wasn't about to start today.

I told that shipper what they can do with their load because I was not hauling it there's no money in this world worth putting up with somebody's mouth like that the guy than tells me how he is calling my Company and I'll be fired I told the guy I've been trying to get fired for the past several years without any luck and how I've already quit numerous times but for some reason I keep showing up ready to work....them guys looked at me like they didn't know what I was talking about.

As A company driver I can see probably get fired for yelling at a big customer like that but I'm simply not going tolerate it, as a owner operator I have the ability to not haul any load that I don't want to I have that right just one more shipper on my black list!

bayou, had that happen in Baltimore in the early 90's, guy said he was going to call my company and have me fired. he asked for the phone number. I gave it to him and told him to hurry and call, because my wife watched the Price Is Right at 11am, and she was going to be really pissed about disturbing her show and that she was going to have to fire her husband. the guy was speechless and turned and walked off, when he left everybody at the dock about died laughing, they said it was the first time the sob was ever speechless.

yep times like that make it worth it.

Lmao.. shippers are the funniest but that's why I started pulling tankers as a company driver because I don't run into none of that anymore . Both shippers and customers are always happy to see me.

yea, lets see how long you stay in business with that attitude. O/O or not, if your hauling freight for another company, you should treat their customers with respect regardless of how they treat you. If you dont want to deal with customer crap, then get your own authority. If you were a O/O working for me, id be pissed if you cant control your temper and lost me a customer. Now Im leased on now, so i have to respect my carriers customers. There is not point in coming down to a bad customers level. Just be polite an let it roll off you. Refusing a loade after deadheading their cost you money in an extra deadhead. You spent more money just to save your pride.

You dont have to be an O/O to not put up with that..I'd bust the shipper in the jaw and then if the company wanted to fire me I'd bust the boss in the jaw too..now yell at me like a 6 year old.Oh whats that ??,Having alittle trouble yelling with that broken jaw are ya ??

If I wanted to take any crap from someone I would of joined the military....it's just like me shaving to get into the Valero refinery by my house I deliver stuff all over the country and that is the only facility that I have ever been told that I needed to go and shave I'm not doing it for a customer that I've been to just a few times, in this case I have never been to the shipper before so i'll never lose sleep over it.

Its that simple, some guys choose to never tarp loads and they're still in business!! Or the guys that don't haul pipe...yep they're still making it just the same as crushed cars or hay being a owner operator you have choices you don't have to do anything you don't want to do, without having any recourse that's my point, now if that was $100,000 year customer that I had been in their weekly for the last year then yeah I would've sucked it up but also they would've treated me different.....

I'd say he's doing alright, been an owner operator on his own now for a number of years. Why take crap from some loud mouth? He showed more restraint than I would of...

there are times when its more than just a customer being rude, there does come a time where ya got to stand up for yourself and say enough is enough.

and in bayou's case , he has no one to answer to but himself.

but richter, that customer acts as he does because he has always gotten away with it. probably no one has done what bayou did. one handy thing to do is take yer cellphone and record the knucklehead who runs his mouth at you, then e-mail it to coporate hq, or simply walk around to the front and plkay it for someone then and there, that usually gets results.

but the majority just put up with it and the people just keep doing it to drivers day after day, if a company has customers with that attitude, they don't need that customer.

The yard boss has a boss too. Walk into his office and tell him you ain't delivering there anymore because unprofessional abusive behaviour of his employee. I usually get more satisfaction from that. Sooner or later you will run into a fella that doesn't have any back up in him. Then what? Assault charges. Court dates. Money spent. Money lost. Stupid stuff that's what.

BTW, if you have your own authority then you are a Carrier.

Easy killer. Let's not go suggesting that we advocate comitting assault and battery here.

There are definitely better ways of handling a jerk like that, like going up the chain of command, so to speak.
