I have to disagree with this, if the vehicle has over 10,000 lbs gvwr, then this is where it becomes a commercial vehicle and under the FMCSA/state regulations, until then it is under the domicile rules of the state which it is registered in.

I ran with my state's licence in California, which was not a CDL at the time because my van was under 10k limit. I never ever got bothered nor was I worried about it. California can not impose rules and regulations on out of state vehicles that they already agreed to abide to through reciprocating agreements.

Just because you did not get caught, or they did not happen to tag you does not make it legal.

I dont care personally care, I don't consider them truckers anyway.

If you're operating in a "grey area" it's pretty pointless to ask questions on a public forum. I mean if you wanna break laws go do it. If you want to be legal come back and ask questions. I'm sorry if you had an idea we all skirt the law so we can run cheaper like you. No, we don't. Not just because we're suckasses either. Because doing it right pays in the long run.
