hello
Share your experience? Can I get a MC and DOT number to before purchase a truck? If the truck is already how long it takes to get these numbers? Need to do it in advance? Just want after purchasing the truck to start work immediately and not wait a month for example ... please tell me what to do. Can I use the software to search for load without having MS and Dot rooms let the dispatcher? how to do it? Thanks

Can you get a DOT number without buying a truck? Simple answer, yes. But it is not that simple. Most insurance companies will want some type of coverage on your truck to go along with the general liability required by FMCSA. In order to do that, you must supply a VIN. Unless you have made a deposit on a truck and have it in writing that it will not move until you pick it up, using a VIN from a dealer is asking for trouble.
Say you bind your insurance to a truck on the lot and the next day, Billy Bob Joe Ray Bob the 3rd, Jr. comes in and buys that truck. Billy Bob goes out and gets in a wreck and kills someone. Lawyers go to the first place available to look for insurance on said truck and FMCSA has your insurance on record for that truck. Guess who is bankrupt before their DOT authority is even active? Extreme case, but would you really want to risk everything with someone named "Billy Joe Ray Bob the 3rd, Jr."?
The process for getting your DOT authority is simple. First, file for your MC and DOT numbers. You MUST wait 14 days while it is in the protest phase. Nothing anyone can do about that no matter what you hear. After the 14 day waiting period, you can submit your insurance to FMCSA. It takes up to 5 days to bind to your numbers and activating them. But you're not done yet...
IFTA and UCR won't go through unless your authority is active. Better figure on 3-4 weeks total time from when you start the process to finish. -
