i seen this owner operator with his own authority and permits pulling walmart trailers. so i talked to him on the cb radio. and he said he went through a mercer agent to pull walmart trailers and is getting $1.60 a mile minimum to $2.40 a mile sliding pay scale, and the mercer agent has contracts with 5 walmart distrabution centers. MERCER is that 100% owner operator flatbed company. I just wanted to get the news out on what i was told on the cb radio. thought it might help owner operators that dont have a trailer.

Mercer is 100% owner operator. I have met a few owner operators who have hauled direct out of Walmart DC's. They were home most nights. A couple of them worked out of the Decherd, TN DC. Another worked out of the Cleburne, TX DC. I don't know if Walmart still does the same program, but you might give them a call unless you prefer leasing to a carrier. If you want to go with Mercer, they are a solid company that has been around for many years. I have a good friend who leased to them at one time and he really liked the way they do business.

I had recently heard Swift just got awarded a big Wal Mart contract here in NY. Was talking with one of Swifts customers and they said they already started looking for alternative carriers when they found out.

There really should be a "guess what I heard on the cb today ?" thread.

Long ago i used to pull wm freight thru a co that was nothing but a wm support group consisting of 50 trucks, home almost every night, you got placed on a call board so you got called in that order, thinking back then was something like 1.50pm and was good for awhile till wm slowed the miles, added more trucks of there own, but was fun and profitable, got paid just to move a trailer off a door sometimes or pull pallets to the main dist, real money then was run from one dist point to another.

Could it be something that is just seasonal? Agents here at LS have the same kinda deal going .
