Ladies and gentlemen, looking for your opinion. How much would you say an average income per hour is? I know there are lots of details that influence the number, but still. Thank you.
What is an hourly income for an owner operator business?

If I added up all the hours I put into it. $5,.. maybe $6hr. Wish I was joking about that.
Its not a job for someone with poor work ethics,.. thats for sure. You have to constantly work at it. Its none stop. I havent taken a real break or vacation in 4 yrs.
Even when your home,.. your working on the truck or trailer, getting it ready to go back out. By the time you get your laundry done, its time to roll out.

Depends on what hour it is. Some pay a nickel if you're lucky and some pay a boatload. Asking about hourly pay in trucking is a flawed question unless you are talking to an hourly driver such as an LTL or local delivery dedicated. Most owners don't do those gigs.
Also, as soon as any driver states pay in dollars you know its a lie. None of us are going to admit that we sometimes work for a wage that makes a fast food job pay look good. -
Depend on if your behind the wheel or not. 100k a year/3640 hours is 28 bucks and hour. (3640 is 52 weeks at 70 hours per week.,,,yes i know its 70 in 8 days, but we work more then our logs say)
Now that im own to tricks i work 15 hoursish a week and still profit around 100k. 100K/780=128/hour
You might not make 100k your first year. I took a loss my first year but got a tuck paid off. I made -/hour my first year.Konrad Po Thanks this. -
You should never try to figure out hourly pay. I like to go by day quota or by the week. Makes the bad days even out with less stress about how much you made that day per hour.

If you want to think in terms of dollars per hour, take up another line of work and especially don't do a business of any sort.
Owning a business is not about dollars per hour, it's about profit in the business ... it's your business and you do what you need, to make it profitable or your don't and watch your business fail.Big Don, Konrad Po, exhausted379 and 3 others Thank this. -
Waking up stiff and achy, working when you should be in the bunk or home in bed taking medicine, showing a smile and happy face to pricks you would love to smash their skull in, and learning patience. You have your good days and bad. You look at where you want to be. The goals your trying to reach. Its overwhelming at times.
So many company drivers think the only way to make it is to own a truck. This is my first year as an O/O and I can tell you first hand,.. I had more money for myself as a company driver. Its not how much you make. Its how much you can keep.
Hiring my first driver in Jan and buying a second truck. Everyone I talk to about it says I'm a glutton for punishment.

58 a hour by that dumb calculation and by hours I mean time card aka local logging with a 12 hour clock. Not no cheating coloring book.
