I'm on my third Pete, and this will be the last one because of my age. A Pete is no better or worse than any other truck mechanically speaking. But something about them make them addictive. My old Pete is in top shape mechanically and in no way is it a show truck, but I keep it clean and polished. I cannot count the number of compliments I've had on it. This last summer a tourist took pictures of it from far off, and then her husband came up to the truck and took some closeups. Does the lights and chrome make me more money? No! But if you buy this one you will understand this. It's a pride thing and that can't be explained. Hope you end up with this truck, and, if you don't, good luck anyway. Keep it safe.
Need some suggestions. 2003 379EXHD

The 6nz is a strong selling point. Not a Cat fan but thats a good one. If it was mated to a W9 or a T600, then you`d really be getting a deal. Not a bad deal EVEN IF it is a pete.

sounds like a good deal, keep in mind at sitting for 4 years you will have a fair bit of expense, all new fluids and a fair bit of rubber pieces. i think at 20k though it sounds like a good deal

"Old guy" doesn't equal "dumb guy", "crazy old guy", yup, sure...
From reading Hurst's post for awhile, I'm sure he will do his best "due diligence". -

After working on trucks for 30 years. Peterbilt does a lot of things I like better than most other brands. That aside I got out from under one and started driving this year. I acquired a 97 379 with a 3406e that had sat for several years. I knew that the engine needed an inframe no surprises. I inframed it and sand blasted and painted the frame. I have put 65000 trouble free miles on it since. I put the 1000hp marine cam in with the original injectors and flashed it to 601/2049 5ds file. The last two ifta quarters I have been 6.7 mpg. Dump trailer usually run 63 mph, it will pull the gates off hell. If you buy and it was cared for you will be pleased.

Truck is a no go for me.
Not even sure where to begin.
First,.. the guy was a kook. I think the solitude is taking its toll on him.
The truck was not as he described.
Truck was a 2000, not a 2003. Said he didnt know where I got 2003 from. I Wonder,.. pffft.
3.55 rear were actually 3.70. Did not have 24.5 wheels,.. 22.5.
Gauges, dash switches and virtually everything inside the truck was worn or showing excessive wear. Loose wires all over. CB bolted on top of the dash. Some kind of ECM tuner box that looked older then the truck bolted next to the CB .
'Rough' is a nice way to describe this truck.
Oh,.. and he wants $30k. Says he doesnt know where I got $20k from. Says he has $38k into it.
Truck does have a 6NZ and 13spd. Says its got 114k on rebuild.
If anyone is interested he said it was ok to give his phone#.
All I can say is buyer beware.
