Since health insurance is a big expense. Do most o/o's depend on their spouses job for health insurance? Or just buy it outright?

My wife's job supplies us with health insurance, for a fee of course, considerably cheaper than anything else we have found.

I am single. I have a blue cross blue shield policy. I have a $5500 deductible. It currently costs $153/month. Next year it will be $183/month.

My bother-in-law who is a farmer & has had major heart trouble, when ObamaCare kicked in his & his wife's health insurance went up more than $400.00 per month.

My wife worked for the local school district & up until I was disable I had health insurance with her, I believe back them I paid nearly $300.00 per month. When I was disabled in 2002 I started going to the VA for my health care, could not afford it no more.

Its amazing at the cost of health, or all insurance nowadays.

Don't have a spouse. Blue shield has me covered at $300 a month with a $500 deductible. It's one of the smallest expenses I have.

Thank you for the replies. I would like to get into trucking. I was wondering how most of you deal with the health insurance expense.

I haven't had health insurance since I started o/o several years ago. Which is probably more common than o/o who do have it. I do what i can to stay healthy and don't run to doctors when I get the sniffles. Walk in medical clinics are not so expensive if i do need a doctor for something minor. Now if someone plows into my rig and puts me in intensive care for a month then I'm sunk but it's a risk I take.

I took the ObamaCare option in my home state and it saved me $10,000 over what my company offered. I know, unpopular, but it saved me money.

Even though I have health insurance. I try not to use it. Since the deductibles are so high. But, health insurance was really meant to be for catastrophic purposes.
When it comes to being an o/o, I was thinking health insurance cost plus other expenses would push expenses to over $1.20/mile. Give or take.
Being able to use the spouses insurance would be a huge benefit.
