So I'm looking into fuel cards. I talked with NASTC this week, and their program sounds great, but I was a little annoyed by the "options" you had to choose to be apart of the fuel program. Either pay $36 a month for service I don't need or attend a day long class in Nashville for sales people to inundate me with services I don't need. I'm not saying they are not good services but I've already have all that set up locally with people I can go and see if there is a problem. So my question is what do you use for a fuel program? I was going to call OOIDA on Monday to see what they have to offer.

I use the Voyager card. It does not have any discounts or such but is accepted at cash price at most smaller fuel stops. I refuse to buy at any of the big stops like TA or Pilot, they have ridiculously high pump prices so that the little guys subsidize the big fleets who pay based off rack price plus a few cents from processing. Voyager has no finance charge if paid on time, I am on net 30 days with 5 days to pay after being invoiced. In my area there is a Pilot along with three small independent fuel retailers, all truck friendly, and the Pilot is always .15 to .20 cents per gallon higher than the other stops, and they are all off the same exit ramp within 1/4 mile of each other. Wright Express is another fuel card that is alright, accepted almost anywhere at cash price, some places do charge credit, but again they do not offer a discount so you have to pick your fuel stops wisely to save money. Both of these cards can be set up as fuel only or allow other services to be charged to them like repairs, oil, tires, etc. I have mine as fuel only, I don't do cash advances and have other accounts for repairs while on the road.
Iron-Man Thanks this. -
I can buy fuel locally at speedway for .15-.30 cents cheaper than the truck stops. But I want to save more. I just feel like NASTC's two options I have to choose are excessive. I'm paying a yearly membership fee why must I either pay a fee monthly (in addition to the yearly fee) or travel 5 hours one way and spend 8 hours having sales pitches thrown at me. I know people who are members there and do not and did not have to do those things to get the fuel card. So I'm just wanting to see if there are other options out there that other folks are using.

i just got a pilot "cash card" minus 4 cents off the pump price
probably will never use it
i find mom&pops that are 30 to 80 cents cheaper than the pilots and ta'smp4694330 Thanks this. -
I have the NASTC card and I never went to that seminar you're talking about. I told the rep I wouldn't have the time to waste to go on such a thing. You will get great discounts on their card if you're OTR, but the OOIDA is a good alternative and is much better than what they used to offer.
How can anyone compare mom and pop fuel stops to what the NASTC card offers. Forget about the posted price of fuel at the TA/ Petro TS. That's not what you will end up paying. The discounts are pretty good. But will vary from state to state.
I have no complaints and have saved a lot in fuel bills.
good luckReeferOhio Thanks this. -
The NATSC fuel card looks good but their locations are limited and would not work for me.
OOIDA's card through fleet one does not really offer you anything except cash price and a few cents off at select locations. -
NASTC fuel location if anybody interested:
