I used to run it from DFW to the Pac NW in the winter so I'd miss Wyoming. Most of the time it was a whole lot better.

It's not a bad route. You shouldn't have any problems. I used to run through there pretty regular a few years ago.

New driver need to know that before there were interstate highway US routes were where everyone traveled,US routes are used a lot for oversize loads because interstate have overpasses that are too low for over height loads , Sure you are not going to run 70MPH on many and there are towns you have to slow to go thru. There are also steeper grades on some too. In the east they are too congested but out west they are good routes. I always if I can take the shortest route and many times they are US highways or a combination of US and Interstate highways,, Many in the western states have little traffic .Coming out of the Bay area going east on I-80 if your route takes you to I-70 going east from Denver take US 50 from Fernley,NV to Salina,UT and pick up I-70 there,,You can travel on US 50 in Nevada for 30-40 miles sometimes and never see an other vehicle going either direction and there are hundreds of great quiet places to park for the night.

Anywhere San antonio or west that's the best route I'm in Albuquerque I make this trip mostly lubock or San antone then Laredo back to Nw there's a scale by price then Monticello it's under repair now but they're inspecting then a goofy scale in Cortez. After that almost never open. It's rough down by Roswell oil field!

I always go that way from Salt Lake to Houston with the exception of cutting down through Pecos. I run 40 to 84 to Sweetwater then back roads from there to home. It's mostly 2 lane and there are some hills but with a light load it's good running.

Its a great drive. Nothing major to note even if you are running heavy. Its one of those drives that makes you want to come back and do it in your 4 wheeler so you can go exploring.

Would you all stop giving away all the good route info. Next thing you know lots of trucks will be on them, and it will get clogged up with traffic.
