LOTS of beating the bushes and looking and trying and looking and trying some more.
Every body wants a dedicated run and as such you will have to look long and hard for them. They are not growing under trees. -
I guess i will start the year off fresh and work hard and try to find one.

Most of the dedicated runs I have seen over the years have been in either automotive or retail store. Some of the big carriers have what they call dedicated accounts. You haul for the same customer all the time but you deliver to all their customers, not just the same one. There is a lot of dedicated work out there, but you have to look for it. Most places have a waiting list of drivers who want dedicated. I did a lot of dedicated over the years and it always worked well for me. Not as many surprises as with general freight.

As fas as automotive dedicated goes, you may want to check with FTI, B&W Interstate,Rush trucking, and a few others I can't think of now. THey all hire O/O's and have dedicated runs; if they have any available, I couldn't tell you.

Dedicated generally, but not always, equals poor rates. If it does have solid rates it won't last forever. Work it as long as possible. With vans there's always some cheap dufus ready to cut throats.

Ruthless and double yellow Thank this. -
Also this ^^ right here= no good. Sounds like you want any s head whose wheels can turn, safety and responsibility be ######. Those aren't qualities that professionals in any field are looking to scrape by with.Last edited by a moderator: Nov 22, 2014
double yellow Thanks this. -
I'd put the blame more on the O/O that will load their truck for that rate than the shippers...

I haven't been at it 6 months & I've been offered 2 dedicated runs. 1 paying laughably low & the other seemed like a good rate until you considered the increased likelihood of an accident driving WY i80 twice a week with 12k in a 53' van.
Even without the risks, you're putting a cap on your potential earnings compared to providing capacity to desperate markets.
In his book, Antifragile, Nassim Taleb talks about how people erroneously equate steady pay with job security. I noticed the same thing in poker -- people trading the wild swings of optimal play for lesser swings and suboptimal play. But when the games got tougher after the financial crisis, the guys with lower, steadier winnings were the first to go bust.rollin coal and BigKid2 Thank this.
