If you want to drive around working your tail off to maybe make truck payments and pay for fuel,..Go ahead,...But understand that you are the kind of operator that has cut rates and destroyed any hope of a O/O making any kind of profit these days,...And sooner or later some dirtbag outfit will come along and cut your rates and you will be thinking "What Happened" to this industry just like some of us are at this time,...Then you will understand where some of us are coming from....

Good Luck,....I hope you lose everything you own quickly,...It's much less painfull that way...

buy the pete....when the economy swings back around it will be worth more than the shaker....even with pipes a shaker is a shaker

if you have reliable frieght, that pays above average, and can find a consistant backhual that at least covers expences....go for it

the market for trucks is flooded...they just cant sell them...get them down at least 5k under what they are askin

the frieght market, well to be honest just plain sucks........best of luck to you when you jion the struggling masses

and for the record, i agree with 1pissedoff
i havent seen profit in awhile......LOL....its like the lost step kid i always wanted

1pissedoffdriver is right about the numbers, a lot of drivers forget to figure medical insurance, tax preparation, telephone, internet, legal services, etc. into their business plan. I have made my career on older used trucks. I have my business out of debt, tractor/trailer paid for. By the way, my current truck has 1.2 million miles on original engine with no metals showing still in the oil analysis.

    1pissedoffdriver Thanks this.

I hate to sound mean but i am not being mean..Even the #### pete will not hold it's value..They have not really been worth much in 5 years or better..Years ago yes,absolutly...Last 5 years,no wayyyyyyyy

Those are even throw aways anymore...Trucking is not what it used to be,by no stretch of the imagination

See there is the real reason for businesses going under. They think that all the freight is just for them at their rate of choice. Maybe I should go buy a big money maker car hauler .... LOL What did you think people are going to pay $30,000 to $60,000 for a car ? You want paid good money to haul a car that a guy got paid $30.00 an hour to screw the gas cap on , and you wonder why your out of work...???? Come on , people are tired of paying more for a product than it's worth , cars included , freight included as well..... That's why your truck is setting ...

The fact that you have insurance does not negate the fact you have to put it into your business plan. 1pissedoffdriver's numbers are right, drivers that budget "around" things like insurance, telephone expense, internet or any other possible expense you can think of is foolish. We need to be as good business people as we are drivers. Anything less than that is irresponsible.

That is what I am saying here... Everyone wants cheap gas , fuel , cars products consumer goods etc... How can a shipper pay you more when they have so much revenue tied up in producing a product , any product... PERIOD. There is a happy medium where the economy is half arsed balanced , we however have not seen that in a while. That's the reason you choose to sit and not run . It's your choice to give up . If everyone gave up we would be no better off my friend . It just adds to the depression or so called recession... Positive attitude will help , negative just snow balls and rolls down hill. So stay strong and ride the wave so to speak. It will get better over time. Well we hope anyways , You just have to have some faith that's all . You could die at an early age if you let the day to day market drive you insane . But hey , I understand some want more , not need more to get by. I know what it takes to stay afloat in the trucking business . And I know the difference between needs and wants.......Your bottom line could be a lot more than mine or the next guys. If we were all the same and had to play by the same rules there would be no competition at all in the trucking industry at all . And how boring would that be ??? Wow this got way off subject from the posted topic ..... People would rather bi#% about the other guy doing things the way that works for them, other than their way which obviously don't work if your sitting now does it....

Mr,...I bought my truck outright,....I had my own transport company,.I had my own customers,...I hauled primarily used cars to and from auctions,...And to be honest I did pretty good right out of the gate,...And then the economy went in the crapper,......A couple of my accounts went out of business and the rest got real slow,.....
When things started to go bad, Many of my competitors were hauling for less than fuel just to get something going the direction they wanted to go,....I had a set rate I had to have to move the truck,...I am not going to work for nothing,....So I hung it up and the truck is for sale,...

On the flip side I learned a great deal,..At a very high cost,.....
