First week with Averitt truckload... by far the WORST week I have EVER experienced in the last 2 years trucking.

Poor miles, poor load planning, lied about h/t, rude FM... been in this filthy excuse of a truck for 5 days, I was perfectly fine getting in, now I'm sick as a dog, coinscidence? I think not... reported a coolant leak that I discovered and was asked why I didn't have it taken care of when I was at a service center that I was at the night before... well uh, sir, it had not developed the leak and had not been discovered yet, that's why. "You're new, you'll learn" he says. What's that supposed to mean? They are routing me to home domicile for my first hometime where I will have a whopping 15 hr break before having to return to complete the second leg of the run. I had him remove the second half of the trip so I can actually take a break and I was told I am going to regret it.. I'm sure I can go on and on with the bs I've encountered this week... maybe it gets better?
Trying to give it an honest shot, but not very happy as things are right now. Will update if things change. -
Mcdiddy1, sorry to hear it's not starting out well for you. I did talk to some drivers this week (my final week with my trainer) that were upset with lack of miles and hoping it turns around quickly.
I am officially off the trainers truck. I have a truck waiting for me at the Macon, Ga. yard. I will catch a ride with another driver tomorrow to go get it. I am happy to be on my own. All in all, I am very happy with Averitt. If I get enough miles to make a decent living and get my weekly home time more often than not, I will be happy.
I have broadband for my laptop so I will give more frequent updates on how it's going. Be safe. -
If so, be sure to notify your FM immediately. They generally offer you $50 dollars to clean out the truck yourself rather than bringing in a detail service. -
If things are slow in an area, sometimes it's best to hang on to a load if you have one. -
I wouldn't wish this company upon anyone!!!
Mustanggt, props to ya, I'm glad they work out for you.
All others... I would think twice and consider other options before committing yourself to this company.
Worst experience ever. I quit this morning after yet another rediculous load assignment. Averitt's load planning is the absolute POOREST I have EVER experienced.
Granted I have been driving for less than 2 years, I can't imagine any body being WORSE than this.
I would go back to work for WERNER before reconsidering AVERITT. -
Sounds like mcdiddy1 had the same experience with Averitt as I did many years back. That's what happens when you run truckload and LTL divisions and try and make the truckload div. drivers alternate between day truckload and night line-haul modes, combined with a generally lacking amount of truckload freight system wide.
That being said, they were inclined to keep you close to home to where somewhat consistent home time was possible. But that yielded few miles separated by long wait times at Averitt. -

1600 miles...
STexan nailed it.
Yes it is sad, I only gave it one entire week. That is ALL I could take honestly. It was that unpleasant.
