I believe that's how it works down south... but up here, well you have to go GET your license first, then you work for next to nothing... I know some who barely made enough to pay for their meals on the road, for a year to 18 months, not something I would recommend to my worst enemy. But our insurance regulations don't allow for over-the-road training unless you are 21. Most won't take you before 25, again insurance issues.

Want to see some real winter road stuff check out www.kingofobsolete.ca
or search http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=64 KoO there is a winter road story there. there is no way that rick or drew would have been on the ice if it wasn't for history channel. Contrary to the TV depictions the great white north west has some very high standards. You might get gravel work up here in the summer green but this is still pretty wild country. Google map Mcbride BC and then get map directions to Prince George BC , 2 years ago that stretch of highway had a 6''or deeper coating or ice for most of the distance, I talked to a guy who wore a new set of heavy tripple rail Trigs out in one trip, most guys just turned around. Sorry if I miss led you on the conditions up here and I guess I just missed your age

Wildcat I re read my post and it sounded like I may have disrespected your post , If I did I didn,t mean to Anyone who runs the north deserves Deep respect I was merely trying to point out that canadian winter conditions can be harsh. Although I was strapping a load in my t shirt yesterday

LMAO Longhood! Only a Canuck would think that +2 is T-SHIRT weather!

I didn't take it as disrespect...no apologies required!

And you are correct, most who have never run up here have no idea just what they are in for. And the young gent there is from Texas, so he would have even less... no disrespect intended there either TDJ... it's just that alot of "southerners" have no real concept of what WINTER really is! We deal with 6 months of it in OUR south, and up to TEN in our north and it is certainly much harsher than what our southern neighbours are used to!

Hey there, i'm intending to move up to alaska within the next year or so. By that time i'll have at least a years experience OTR as a fleet flatbedder for Roehl Transport. What would be be some good companies to talk to up there? Would I have a better chance as an O/O? I'm not restricting myself to flatbed. I'm open to other options.
