Does that mean Indians can't operate trucks or trucking companies competently? Sure sounds that way.
A couple of them can operate the truck, I've never met one that could drive one though. I had one of them ask me how to get to Toronto once, when I told him he said oh my boss said I can't go that way because of the inspection stations. This was right after he asked me why my tridem could haul more weight than his tandem trailer. Had another one come into the mill I work at asking me how to get to Winnipeg, he said he was going to do it one shot since it wasn't that far (only 1100 miles or so). I'm not even going to get started on trying to drive anywhere near them in the snow.

    Food for thought.

We are in an awkward position in BC. Whereas most truckers must deal with mainstream financial institutions, many of the truckers and trucking companies that are of East Asian heritage, whether Cdn. born, or landed immigrant status, are often financed by their own private credit union. And, sadly, truckers, both drivers and owner operators who are of a different ethnic heritage are often not treated well by these companies. Racial discrimination can work both ways. I know personally of instances where a company owned by East Indians would have owner operators of their own ethnic heritage run Vancouver to California and return. The non-East Indian owner operators went east of the Rockies, and could be out three weeks before seeing Vancouver again. Money due on the last day of the month, often wasn't. When a non E.I. owner operator quit, the money he was due back from ICBC pro=rate could take months to be paid to the trucker. And ICBC does not hang around when plates handed back in, The E.I. companies hope that the owner operator will just give up and not demand their money. My brother will get his last cheque from one of these companies on Tues. He has phoned them weekly, to remind them he is not gooing away, and the cheque better be accurate or he will have a lawyer place a lien on their National Safety Code until the funds are paid. The company would not be able to turn a wheel until the lien is satisfied. With the private financing that many E.I. companies have, they seem to feel that they can cut rates left, right and centre. Every day, there seem to be more of these companies setting up and advertising on Craigslist. The fact that they are also cutting each other's throats, as well as the Non E.I. truckers' throats, when they cut rates does not seem to occur to them. Sadly, I have also seen many of their trucks that are poorly maintained, with bald or almost bald tires. Sadly, many E.I. truckers have had limited educational opportunities before immigrating, and their private credit union seems to feel that in the absence of a trained, marketable skill, the quickest fastest route to a job is to help them get their commercial license. I have also seen many instances where Cdn. born E.I. take horrible advantage of immigrant E.I.I regret having to say this, but, coming from a family of truckers, if a company is owned by E.I. the better policy might be to walk away rather than hire on, especially in BC.Perhaps in BC, there should be a policy that one has to write a reading and writing test as part of the application process, to show that one has at least a grade ten level of reading comprehension and writing before getting a commercial license.

It's all about choices. If an O/O or driver CHOOSES to hire on/lease on with a carrier thay can also choose to take their toys (truck/CDL) and go play in a different sand box.

How does a O/O file a lien on/against their NSC and IMMEDIATELY stop the carrier from operating?
