Hello There.
A couple of weeks ago, I purchased my first brand new truck - a Pete 389.
I have always purchased used trucks, but thought of going new this time around.
This truck is powered with a 500hp with a 3:91 ratio.
Super 40's.
I've got only 100 hours on this truck, but I'm eating up fuel like there is no tomorrow!
Im getting about 4.1mpg. My 07 Star is at 4.6mpg pulling the same 63,500kg (140,000).
My rpms are around 1350rpm.
Will this monster consume less the more the engine is broken in? If so, how long will that take?
Any assistance and advice i would appreciate!
Sara

Our brand new Pete 388's get roughly the same and they have the 500hp isx also, I wouldn't expect much more out of it
Sarabeara Thanks this. -
So much for the dealer telling me im gonna get 5

you might want to have a computer hooked up to it.I didnt get the best milage out of my truck til the day I lost power.A sticky egr valve led to turbo and sensor being replaced but I now get 6.3 verses 5.3
Sarabeara Thanks this. -
You may be seeing a drop in your mileage because of winter fuel mixtures.
I wouldn't think the long nose would have too much effect, as western stars aren't really aerodynamic either. -
My Star with a DD15 loaded to 72,300 gets 5 in the summer and roughly 4.3 - 4.5 with winter fuel. It had just broke 100, 000 kms. We have onboard computers in our trucks that track fuel consumption in real time. Your mileage seems really low as your in the prairies too. I'm on the Coq with some big pulls as well. Can the dealer run a diagnostic on it?
Sarabeara Thanks this. -
Im thinking thats exactly what we are going to do.

Try running 1/2 gear lower, my new (1200 hr's) 550 cummins works best in the 1400-1700 range, I'm pulling 55,300 in BC. IMO there isn't many places you can pull 63,500 @ 1350.rpm...must be pretty flat land w/a tailwind.

My 550 isx (2007 model) doesn't pull 49,000kg's very well below about 1500rpm, I didn't notice that part. I'd try keeping your shift points around 16-1650rpm and that should help

'12 Pete with the Cummins is not very good with mileage or pulling the hills for us and the other guys I know who have em. Once we got 150 000km the mileage actually got worse and so did DEF consumption. Pete recently reprogrammed so we will see.....
