Well, Im certainly no "expert", everything i've learned has been trial and error - and there's been a lot of them.
I 've rigged three trucks up, all three have had a T&E Pump 4 1/2" with a Chelsea Direct Drive. I've never had a bad install from GForce Diesel in Lloyd,
but I'll warn you they're expensive and Troy is a dink. He doesnt return phone calls, and expect to always pay at least $1000 over his estimate for whatever reason he finds. I'll never understand why Greg the owner keeps him. I've heard of shops like Drive products in Edmonton that have done it for cheaper - but from a few people i've talked to - some major problems seem prevelant, and then they will try to fault the driver telling them they dont know who to operate the pump properly. Just remember, these are just my experiences. Somebody else might say something completely different.
That being said, my last install I had the hydraulics done at Kramer in Regina. I went with hydraulics for two reasons this time. One is because I wanted the ability to flip between hauling NGL products and Crude. And, i've heard time and time again that oil companies are preferring the use of hydraulics over Direct Drive. One company is AIM. Straight from Bill Krepps mouth. Installs are getting really expensive, $23,000 for my last. Thats including the automatic Roda that you'll require.

As for the company you go with... (I'm shaking my head) Here's my and my husbands experience...

Cordean.... Run.. run far away! Poor trailers
Gibsons Energy - we were not O/O's then, my husband worked for over a couple of years there hauling both propane and crude. Other than being told to look for trailer number 12345, and looking all over the yard for them for 1/2 an hour, and then realizing they werent there - that dispatch had sent him on a wild goose chase again - then waiting for a couple of hours for trailers to come in from another driver...
They are like Plains Midstream that when things are slow - and they have too many drivers - and will try to starve you out. Personally, I would rather just be told that "things are slow, go home for 6 weeks". Just stupid games.
CSI is run by a husband/wife couple... but believe me - "Princess" Debbie runs the show. They hold back 75 days but then they will take both months of fuel off your first cheque. When you hook on to them, they neglect to mention that.
That lesson taught me to get my own fuel cards.
Heavy Crude out of Lloyd...I know some people like em, and it works for them - you work a month and a half - but get paid every two weeks.
I think they're pretty good for Super B work which is what my husband and I prefer.

What else can I offer? Keep your conversations short with the operators, and smile and nod Yes a lot.

    I hope this helps?

Here is another from a newb on this forum, I have only been at Crude hauling for 2.5 or so years. Heavy Crude Hauling LP, just got Husky contracts in Turtleford, Edam, SK and Blackfoot, AB area. I would not recommend them at all, they undercut Stanchuk who is known to undercut everyone. Most of the O/Os in the Edam area have left them already in a couple of months after starting. Same will happen on the AB side as people realize the rates are bad. NOTE: These guys are based in Lloydminster, their SuperB operation is run by their Bonnyville office. So it is different management altogether, this company is part of the Mullen group. Cordean is no longer in this business, as far as I know. CrudeMaster and Larson Management have a good reputation, I have worked with Larson's, they run the show like a kindergarten and treat you like a child, BUT they pay well. Predator energy (heard good things about them) and Excel (cheap, low rates) are newer smaller companies, then there is Quest, Rusylvia, Silverman, Jack knife timber, Prairietech and a few more in this area. Stay away from AHRD, Hollow River.
Rig up, I have dealt with A-Plus machining, expensive like anyone around here, excellent communication and workmanship. I have a truck with dual pump setup on direct drives, one was a Monarch, which is a centrifugal pump for water and other is a T&E gear pump for oil. My other truck has a T&E with Hydraulic drive and this is very expensive, mine cost me upwards of $30K, but I have a bigger Hydraulic pump etc. G-force are good too I hear. Stay away from Discover pumps and other people who think they know how to design, fabricate and install these systems.
I have mostly worked around home, and that is the norm I believe, you sign up with a company and usually stay in the same area, unless there is more demand somewhere else or your area slows down which is usually temporary.
PS: At least I am working hard at getting my 7 posts in, unlike speedloader! hahahaha

Is cordean still working that camp job up north Surmont? I have noticed lately that their crappy trailers have been sitting over at Aims yard lately.
