If I wanted to haul chips or lumber etc. This is who I would go to work for.

Prairieboy, I did work there for 7 months and quit and went to Arrow. The chip division is the ####### child of the company. Guys sit on the side of the road with breakdowns and don't get paid for it etc. They just sold most of their tractors and trailers trying to streamline. Really unorganized and the pay is crap.
GOV'T Trucker we used to split up our trains at Ledcor and dump them that way. We do the same at Arrow. -
Maybe an Ontario law or maybe I am wrong..... I do remember years ago I seen chip trucks dumping at a place I picked up worked in Huntsville, On.. If I remember correctly they might have dumped with a tipper as well... Can't be 100%.... I just heard they don't use tippers because they are unsafe (when we are talking landfills... not solid ground tipping)... I think maybe tippers on garbage heaps isn't too safe.. I wouldn't know tho because I only use walking floors and dump trailers..

I don't see how tippers would be more dangerous than end dumps. When I drove loader in the scrapyard we averaged one trailer a week coming in after it tipped and insurance wrote it off. The worst incident I ever heard of on a chip dump was the macnutt drivers dropping chips at Harmac and Chemainus mills forgetting their coffee cups in the cab!

Yup, you only do that once........don't ask

GOV'T - Here a couple of images I got from Google. All my old pic's of my woods days are still on film. In the pic's you'll see that the chip dumpers are fixed in place, flat floor, possum belly, or trains can dump with the tractor attached. The units dump into the hopper which feeds the conveyer, which piles it around the dumper in a circle. Loaders take the chips to the mill conveyer from there. I can see where the mis-understanding lies now. Yes, portable dumper platforms were always notoriously unstable, especially in soft land fills. I can see why everyone has gone walking floor. That's all that's used on the east coast for trash and compost now.
