Looking for suggestions on tandem suspension differences in KW AG460 vs Pete Air Trac?
I'm about to go with the purchase of 2015 KW T800 or a 2015 367 SBA Pete, both spec'd identically for an oil patch work. My final concern is the difference in ride quality on and off highway, as well as ice and mud traction for KW AG460 vs Pete Air Trac. Both trucks equipped with dual levelling valves and full lockers. Will be hauling crude oil tridem tanker up to 120k lb gvw. Any inputs or suggestions greatly appreciated!

To the OP I like the AirTrac over the AG460 like posted above its simple to work on. If I was going to spec a new KW it would have new-way on it not AG.Pamela1990, MJ16 and Pinner Thank this. -

Ok - I have been running 2 brand new Peterbilts for the past couple of years. I've run both infield, and super B 63,500kg.
Many of my problems really started when I put these trucks infield. My 2013 Peterbilt has had to have the exhaust pipe clamps
tightened as they turned around. Of course, with any new truck that is idling a lot - set your pto to idle at 1100rpm when loading or unloading.
I went through complete Hell with my 2014 Peterbilt 388. For 10 months they couldnt figure out why my DEF light would come on. After countless hours,
it came down to the main wiring harness, and the wrong SCR for this unit - which is under recall btw.
Since then, (knock on wood) its been good.
Dont chrome it up. It comes loose on the gravel roads. I think on my next truck, I would raise the chassis maybe 2" right from the manufacturer.
Many of the wiring harnesses are now made in Mexico for Peterbilt. From what I understand, they are still manufactured in the States for Kenworth - which I might have been lied to... no surprise there.
If I had to do it over again - I might have leaned towards the KW for that reason alone. However, a lot of the problems also depend on the dealership and how quickly they resolve them.
My spec's on both my trucks are 46 rears with 4 way lockers that I have had the dealership bypass the lockers when on high range - on my whim - not Peterbilts. Again though,
I understand Peterbilt wont do that for customers any more - but Kenworth will.
My 2013 Peterbilt is a 389 with 13 fronts and a 500HP Cummins.
My 2014 Peterbilt is a 388 with 13 fronts and a 525HP Cummins. Both with 3:91 and 24.5 tires.
The 389 is a much nicer drive, and handles the highway like a Cadillac. The 388 is a bit more rough riding with shorter hood.
I have Air-Trac on both my units - and would avoid Low Air Leaf under the PB Brand.
I have no experience with newer Kenworths, but know of many guys who seem to like em, and have had their fair share of problems and good things too.

The trucks I'm considering are both set back axle and sit pretty high, both 18 with 14.6/46.0. I will find out from both dealers regarding lockers bypassed (great tip!) and where the electrical harnesses made. In my area Lloydminster/Elk Point AB, I see 70% KW trucks with AG460 8 bag suspensions. Myself, I'm leaning more towards Pete for the comfort, as it has much more better seating position behind the wheel, I have a real strugle with the way KW locates it's pedals against cab firewall, no place to streach. The T800 KW takes the looks though. -
