Is this a good rate for an owner operator 2.85 per mile vancouver to edmonton and back loaded both ways, pulling company trailers?

Can you make money at it? Enough to justify owning your own truck and the headaches that come with it? You don't know what your truck payment is, how much fuel that setup burns, how hard (extra $$ maintenance/tires) is on a truck pulling super b weights? If you were a company driver, how much EXTRA would you be happy with as the truck owner? These are all questions you have to answer for yourself ... also consider what expenses you would be responsible for and what the company you would be operating under is responsible for ... insurance, plates, ifta, permits, all the extras, and are you charging your fuel to their card? are they passing along whatever fuel discount you get? Drive someone else's truck for a few years and track the numbers and figure out if it is something you REALLY want ... if you jump in underexperienced/poor(no) business plan, you could lose your shirt real fast ...

    Easy to figure out. 770 miles each way = 1540 Miles/ 50 MPH = 31 HRS. plus 3 etc. = 34 HRS. $2.85 per mile = $4,389.00 / 34 HRS = $129.09 per hour. Fuel alone let's say 5 MPG ($1.10 per litre = $5.00 per Gallon) = $1.00 per mile for fuel x 50 MPH = $50.00 an hour for fuel.

$30.00 an hour for driver pay. Leaves $49.00 an hour less all other operating expenses.

Not enough for sure. Get a job with a power line company and you'll be much better off.

Uh, Nate, could you come in for a meeting tomorrow? Oh, and make sure you have your office keys and parking pass with you.

Parking pass? You mean I've missed out on that the whole time I was working? Crap. I wouldn't have parked my truck 890km away every shift :p lol
