Really?!! Did you know why PB? Fairly recently, we were offered a job to haul NGL from
Taylor to these mines starting in the fall.

In the case of Yukon Zinc (where Maple Leaf Loading was hauling from) the mine owners in China cut production by half last summer when metal prices fell slightly. Mining in that area is always on again, off again because of fluctuating metal prices and also because mine owners are always surprised by the tremendous snowfall and the high cost of transportation in that area. The biggest mine of all in that area (the Granduc copper mine north of Hyder) actually collapsed under the weight of snow. Prior to that, 26 miners were killed by a single avalanche at the Granduc Mine.

Here's a video of the road from Meziadin Lake, BC through Hyder, Alaska to the Granduc minesite:

I enjoyed the video! I wish it was a steady haul. I'd grab the rv and
    relocate up there.

It's ok man... Don't let it get you down that you work for one of the biggest bottom feeders with the biggest turnover in the Lower Mainland... Maybe some day you will get a chance to work for a real company hauling chips, like Ledcor

Just because they have been around many years doesn't mean they are a good company to work for. 90% of the people there are only there because they get to be home every night. Forced to chain up without pay, not paid when highway 3 or the coq is closed and you're stuck in line. ###### useless Unions, and according to payscale the average driver made $36000 last year.. But hey, these guys are good to work for... Bottom feeders, both of them.

This is an old pay scale. Must have went down a bunch in the new agreement do you think?

Do they govern them at 90km/hour?
I think they are.. anyway, good that they don't pay by the km. Gold Star is the one I'm familiar with on the chip circuit. Good old Peace River to High Level, look for them to cut you off in a really polite way. :D

Hmmmmm. Well we get paid $26.50 now and 12 hours to do a run that takes 10.5. We get paid for breakdowns and highway shutdowns. I get paid for waits at the mine and the tipper. If we run out of hours on a highway shutdown, they come get us and we get a room and meals at their expense. I get paid to chain up and paid to wait to go up the hill. Biggest turnover? We have had 3 drivers move on in the 2 years I've been on this run. Sounds like a big churn to me. Yeah it's an awful place to work. I made $80,000 there last year. I think i might stay on for only another 20 or so years.

So Orcen, tell me who YOU work for and how much you get paid? Maybe I'll have to come over there.

Here is a little breakdown on the math for you. 26.50x12=318, 318x20=6360, 6360x12=76,320. Add in my vacation pay paid by Arrow and Medical and Dental=4000. 76,320+4000= 80,320

    Questions?

Oh and by the way, I started with Ledcor right out of driving school. Learned a lot ;-)
