Hey,
First time here and am new to trucking, I'm being offered a 2015 Volvo vnl64t80 for $45,000 Canadian because she was scratched to hell at a dealers, she's got about 8,000 km on her too. This is an automatic vehicle and I've been told you are better off buying a regular rig but this seems to good to pass up. Any thoughts from auto users or others?
Thanks

If your truly a student you shouldn't be thinking about buying anything.
Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Ask yourself why nobody else has jumped on this wonder deal.

There's got to be more to the story. The dealer could have it repainted for $15,000 and get more than $60,000 for it I would think.

My uncle owns the company......

I'm not sure I understand. You wonder on one hand if a 2015 Volvo for $45k is a good deal.
But - the guy is your uncle who owns the dealership? I guess the question I have for you is - Do you trust your uncle?
What kind of motor? D13, D16? What was the unit spec'd for? Whats the axle rating?
I own a 2013 Volvo 630 and have had no major issues with it. Its spec'd heavy but its with a 18 speed Eaton manual transmission.
I think every truck owner should learn to drive a manual, but with that being said - the Ishift is a money saving piece of equipment
that has become more prevalent in the market.
I guess what I'm not understanding is whoever scratched it, wouldn't they have had the unit insured to repair it.
Considering that most units are around $150k brand new, I would purchase it, repaint it, turn around and sell it if the spec wasn't compatible with my business.
I'm not sure why else this unit is selling for so cheap.Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
Never mind, all I seem to get out of this forum are more questions than answers. It was a mistake to even ask.

Well what did you want us to say to you? "go ahead, buy it, you will 100% positively make 150,000 a year gross salary if you buy this truck RIGHT NOW" ..... and then you find out it needs a new engine. a new ecm ... it has already been in an accident and the frame is bent, the emissions system hasn't worked properly for 10 consecutive miles ... etc etc etc ...
Then you would be back here saying we gave you bad advice and you shouldn't have listened.
If you are hellbent , then do what you need to do. But don't come on here and ask for opinions or other's experiences and then turn around and say you shouldn't even have bothered. Why should we bother answering any more questions you might have? You are only a student. Something like 90% of students don't make it past year 1 anyway. What's the point?Raiderfanatic and Sarabeara Thank this. -
Your question was vague. You had people who sincerely tried to help. I believe they thought you may be getting scammed, and were trying to help you be diligent and protect your savings. I answered your question about the automatic transmission. I stated that the Ishift is a money saver for fuel economy.
You asked if a 2015 model Volvo with I shift was worth 45k. So, without knowing anything else, sure. Go buy it.Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
