Hello, I'm new here and am a DG trainer in the trucking industry. One question I keep getting conflicting information on (even from the Ministry of Transportation) is whether or not you can alter a placard by hand ie hand write UN numbers across a placard when needed. Anyone out there have the definitive answer?
    Thanks

Sure you can do it as long as it meets all the requirement of the CFR 49 Transportation parts 100 to 177. Start at 172.500 Subpart F - Placarding. I don't think you can or why waste your time. IOW's you can not just write the numbers in by hand. If you're dealing with any type of hazmat I sure hope you are already familiar with the CFR-49 but of course if you are in Canada you might have a different number for it but it should be the same. USA or Canada there are specific rules for this type of hauling. I'm sorry I don't know what a "DG" trainer is but if you're in any type of safety training you need to look into this.

I think this guy/gal is in Canada - DG means Dangerous Goods (HazMat) and the MTO or Ministry Of Transport could pertain to any province. GasHauler is correct. If you are going to teach 'DG', you better do some more studying. I also think this thread is in the wrong string. I'll ask a MOD to move it for the OP.
