Hi everyone! I'd like to first introduce myself. My name is Jason. I live in Long Island NY. I am 28 with a GF and a 2yr old girl currently working as a store manager for Autozone. Looking to work hard for myself now and provide a better future $$ wise for my family by starting my own transportation company. I'm getting into the field of transport as a guy I know kept telling me there is great potential to make a lot of money. I went out and purchase an 06 Chevy 3500 Duramax. Installed a Gooseneck hitch rated at 30k. Picked up an older Kaufman 53' Wedge trailer. Got all my numbers (DOT,MC) Insurance on the truck but not trailer yet as I'm waiting on plates. Truck has apportioned plates and ready for INTERSTATE travel. I'm based out of FL from my parents address. Figured for taxes it would be a good idea and insurance plus I'd like to move out there in the future. I am studying for my Class A. Taking my permit next week and looking to sign up with a local CDL school after. I'll be honest, I'm NERVOUS with this size trailer. This is going to be a big challenge for me but I know it can be done. I can begin hauling with 3 cars only as I'll be over weight with 4. I'm at the point where now I have to sign up for CD, Uship, CarsArrive, ReadyAutoTransport, and AutoTransmart. Am I missing any? Then start diving in and getting my feet wet with picking up loads. Any advice on getting loads? How can I build relationships? Do I just call and say hi I am blah blah and I want to pick up this load and literally just go get it? I have a million questions but I'll just start with that lol

Stay away from Uship unless you like working for free......

pretty much how i started dude. got my Class A with a wedge and a freightliner, when taking the test in it (if your using your own truck) the only hard thing is alley dock with the 3 axles lol, but once you get it you wont forget. this is my 2nd month using CD and thats exactally what i did "Do I just call and say hi I am blah blah and I want to pick up this load and literally just go get it?" yup and thats it lol. now i know dispatchers pretty good so far so when they have a load in my region they call before posting it to the public. its all about satisfying the customer, but dont let them run you over because they are in business just like you so you can negotiate with the prices.

If you dont mind me asking, who wrote your interstate MC insurance as a new driver?

I'm thinking of selling the Dually. I picked up a Crew Cab fully loaded for $19k. Book value is around $27. Should I sell it and get a BIG BOY truck lol? If so, what do you guys recommend? I know NOTHING of those trucks. Something with a sleeper as I'd like to make some distance runs rather then stay on here in crappy NY.

I admire your moxey. Trucking even with a p/u and 5th wheel trailer is not something you normally just jump into. But you have made some purchases and are now in it...If I were you I would make sure I could handle that 53' trailer. Dealerships can be tight to move around in, and you are maneuvering around brand new vehicles. Take a turn the wrong way and the overhang will open a vehicle like a can opener...and when new vehicles get damaged-you may be buying it. Be careful and always think before acting. Best of luck on your new business
