Ok so it's not worth squat as a radio today then huh? Maybe I'll hook it up at home and use it as a weather radio. -

Mad Dog,
Thank you for the info on Maxon re: Emperor/Alan. I just acquired one of those Emperors myself two months ago from a tech on one of the other forums (cbtricks(daht)com). So far, running barefoot and stopped down to 10 watts PEP SSB, I've worked 23 US states on CB, 26 countries on 10 Meter SSB, and 15 countries on 10 Meter CW. I enjoy that the SSB is really stable (the clarifier has not been fiddled with). I keep it throttled back a bit cuz I don't want to have to replace that final.
The only thing it lacks that I'd like is the ability to offset the TX freq from the RX so I could run 10 Meter repeaters. If it could, or if I were a smart enough synthesizer hacker, I'd just fit a jack to it so I could run in an external CTCSS encoder as needed.
<sigh> Hope springs eternal.
BTW, all of these contacts have been through a 102" stainless whip to a homemade bracket screwed into the aluminum fascia on the roof line above my single floor shop, fed with good ol' RG-58.
Still looking forward to one good weather day to re-hang my loop. -
I'll give u $2.00.You throw in the S&H.

WHAT SIZE POWER SUPPLY WOULD YOU NEED TO RUN THAT RADIO AS BASE STATION?

A 12 amp should be sufficient if the radio hasn’t been modified power wise.
