OK, I gotta admit I haven't used a CB since people knew who C W McCall was and you could say, "Good Buddy" without being insulted....
So, I went back to see what folks are using today and was kinda surprised at what was out there. I was leaning towards one of the Cobra 29 models until I realized that it was not a SSB radio. Then, it seemed likely that SSB wasn't even used much anymore.
So.... any advice on whether SSB or not? WX channels or not?
Any other advice?
TIA...
Which CB Radio?

SSB is still used, but mostly by radio hobbyists. Most truckers just use the basic AM CB radio. As for WX channels I guess that depends. Some truck radios have WX built in. If you live in Tornado alley WX is nice to have but might scare the piss out of you if the alert goes off. Some radios allow you to turn it off though.
Cobra 29 seems to be the trucking standard for CB radios. The Cobra 25 is just as good and cheaper priced plus doesn't have the useless built in SWR checker. (an external SWR meter 9 times out of 10 is better than the built in one) Also the Uniden PC68 radios are as good as the cobra 25 and even cheaper in price.
Also I wouldn't say Cobras are for rookies or cheap people. Maybe a Midland or a Radio Shack. And good luck asking another driver for a weather report...you'd be lucky if you even did a response, without some smart aleck comment. More and more drivers keep their radios off, ever since the FCC let anyone with a pulse get on the radio and make a fool of themselves.cuzzin it Thanks this. -

I have a Connex 4300HP with a Stryker Antenna and 18' of home made coax. I can hear and talk as quite a ways depending on the other's CB etc...

Since I run FM on 10 meters a 2950 is not high on my list ....
