I am putting a Wilson 2000 on a 2014 Volvo and am curious about a set up I have seen. My company will run coax that I supply from a perch mount on the center rear of the truck along the same route that the people net wiring goes into the CB box. I pull a tank so this would put the Wilson 2.5 to 3 ft. above the truck and tank. My height is 12 ft. The coax length is 30 ft. Is this a location that'd recieve and transmit OK? Can a 30 ft. length of coax be matched to a Wilson 2000 and a Cobra 29 or Conned 3300?

If the antenna is set up properly, the length of coax is irrelevant. The 9'/18' "rule" that the "dealers" feed you is solely to get you to buy more coax than you really need.

Those mirrors on the new volvos suck, they have that plastic casing around the entire mirror I can't see how you can tilt Antenna forward as the perch scews into the top of the mirror.

I think it will work good since you pull a tank. I don't have any experience with this set up, but I'm guessing it will be good.

If the center load of the antenna is above the cab that would be good. as mentioned, the length of the coax has no tuning affect.

If the coil is below the cab about6 inches would that hurt. Maybe go with a Francis fiberglass antenna?

The best thing to do is experiment. Also the further away from the back of the cab you get should be better as well. I checked a guy's SWR on a Wilson antenna the other night. It was on the back of a Cascadia. It was mounted on the airline hanger bracket. With a 10" shaft, the coil was way below the roof line. There was probably only 8" max of the stinger above the roof line. the SWR was 1.5:1 on 19. He said it talked forward a couple of miles, 4 miles he claimed, but didn't talk very far at all to the rear.....he pulls a dry box. I think the Wilson will work well since you pull a tank. All you can do is try it and see.

    Hello,
Wanted to give ya all an update on this... Got it all ran and hook up. Perfect match but couldn't recieve or transmit anymore than 2-3 miles. I'm running a stryker 665 so the radio isnt an issue. Moved everything to a bird perch off the driver's side. 10-12 miles, much better. :)

You want the top of the coil to be even with the top of the trailer, yes it will work very well.
