Sorry dude I don't candy coat ####. I tell it like it is. And if that bothers you then too bad.

Furthermore I don't stereotype anyone or anything. The CB shop posts are based on what I have seen. No, not all of them are bad, but yes many of them are interested in getting into your wallet, while duping you.

Last but not least, you are apparently the only one here whining. Some of us actually try to help others by posting the facts. Yes we are well aware that some are ignorant and could give two ##### less if they're splattering 5 channels either direction while wondering why those extra watts they just saw on the Dosy meter aren't helping them talk over the next guy who runs his full power on one frequency, and doesn't share his watts on the next channel over.

 

Come on T, I didn't attack you personally , I just didn't care for your little story! I will admit most CB shops deserve the ridicule, but not all of them. I know 3 within my "area" that don't. I'm sorry if you haven't seen them all. Last time we started the name calling I got the only warning from a mod I've ever had, and I'm on a bunch of different forums. (I've never reported a post to a mod. I figured you did, but you don't seem to be the crybaby type so I was never sure.) You having a bad day today???? Your advice on here is pretty good, and you are usually pretty decent to others and give helpful information. I usually read your posts because of that. Just because I didn't like your little story is no reason to attack me and call me names. I didn't really have you mind personally when I made that post I just mentioned your post to make the point........and I'll just leave it at that.....not looking for a war.

Kind of supports my tuning with a HP scope and my R2200 monitor, Tune to flat, then back it down to a nice pretty sine wave, at thats it. That's is all that radio is capable of.

The last radio I worked on the hack removed 3 of the slugs completely, jumped out the clippers, stretched the choke coils, turned the voltage to max on the final. My neighbor description was it started smoking right after it was peeked, The picture on the scope is when I was thru. Deadkey about 2 watts peak at just under 8. Once again loud and clear.
Cost him 75.00 bucks to have his radio trashed. I do not think most shops would have repaired it. About 3 hours (including digging thru old radios for parts).

So a cb comes out of the box at 2 watts, and a tech increases it.

Increasing it form 2 watts maybe ok but how it is done is questionable.

I will be a little blunt about CBs, they haven't changed in the past 40 plus years. Many of them now use SMD technology but even then the design and use of the same components are predictable. The same goes for most of the techs, they can work on cbs but give them something else to work on, they would screw it up. Most of those who I've seen work are just hacks, there are a few that can do something beyond a simple tune and peak job, many follow the instructions to add things like hifi audio or install an echo board but overall, it is all the same.

 

How would a CLR2 antenna look on a big rig? or maybe doubles?, I always loved that antenna with a rotor, could probably talk 35-40 miles on a good night growing up in the suburbs of Louisville, Ky. (circa 1965)

Yes. .........with ONE additional S-unit of strength. Question is, is it WORTH it the extra effort to obtain that much more signal strength when 500 watts on HF is pretty potent to start with! The rest is mostly wasted effort and expense (for the amp required to achieve it)...except for the ham or CBer who is insecure and must make up for shortcomings perceived by the op himself! Why should CB's have more audio and "swing" than ANY AM radio at 27 or 28 MHZ? Just askin'
