I had one of those, it was a great radio. I am running a DX73 right now its ok, liked the 66 better

For normal radios you gotta go witha Cobra 29

I have to go with the standard old Cobra 29.
It has plenty of modulation & power enough to drive an amp.
The receiver is about as good as anyone elses.

If I want the extra channels, which I dont really need, I'd go with a mobile HF ham rig. I figure any talking I do there will be SSB & the HF rig comes out of the box doing 100 watts or better on SSB. Plus the receivers are better than your exports.

Not only that but when I get tired of listening to the drivel on cb, I can cruise the hf bands & enjoy it more.

It's all in what you wanna' do with the radio.

    WOW that's a loaded question!

There are two questions you need to ask yourself before buying a CB radio.
    1. What do I want to do with it?
    2. How much money do I have in the bank?

Realistically you really only need to talk to someone a mile to say five away. Any decent off the shelf radio Cobra 29, Galaxy, Texas Ranger, etc. will do that just fine...as long as you have a decent coax with a decent antenna and a good SWR.
You can spend $600 for a radio alone so start off small and work your way up. I use a Ranger 2970, which is a great radio but you would have almost no idea how to use it! don't spend more and get yourself in trouble.

That being said SWR is a very weird thing. MOST more than MOST truckers have no idea what it is. I could tell you bit it would bore you...basically it's the tuning of your radio to your antenna(s). that being said I have heard others say that their radio has a tune to match it. THAT IS DEAD WRONG! there is NOT ONE radio out there that does this. you must tune the antenna to the radio. you switch it to SWR and calibrate the meter. then you key up and see what your meter reading is and tune your antenna accordingly.

***most important*** If you go to a radio shop...ask questions if the guy in there is an ####### or won't give you his ideas...leave. and don't pay more than you can afford.

Tannon you got ripped... hate to tell you. You'll be lucky if that thing lasts a couple years. it's really not a cobra but a cheap knockoff from a Chinese company!

Ok, So im VERY happy with my New CB Radio Set Up.

    This is what i HAD
† a Midland 77-104 Radio - its a compact Radio, works very well, and very basic. - got for 20 bucks brand new win the box. [manufacture date aug -1987] Also have a Cobra 19 which was set up more recently
    † Stock Mic
† Radio Shack Magnet Mount Antenna $30
    Total: 50 Bucks
How it worked: Pretty good, on the highway, i got anywhere from less than a mile, to about 10 miles, it was extremely random, but can always hold a conversation going over the tapanzee. Never got a poor radio check either, always said my signal was very clear.

This Is My NEW Set Up
Cobra 29 Night Watch Classic Peaked And Tuned - ~60 bucks [ebay... from a trusted dude]
† 4' FGT Wilson SilverLoad $17 [ask where i got it in a pm if interested]
    † Belden 18' RG-S8X Coax Cable $14† Mirror Mount $7
    Total: $98

How It Works: PRETTY AMAZING!!! Not Even Sure of the range yet, but its Far and Clear! now its double the price, but i probably get 2x the distance out of it. not everyone needs that though, And i just threw away some more money ive got 4 more things on the way.
    Incoming Signal Pre Amp- $20
Echo Mic [maybe an echo board soon] $17
Quick Disconnect $7 [parking garages, im in a 4 wheeler]
Ground Plane kit $12 My SWR hangs out at around 1.1 but ordered it before i got the new radio, and the new SWR reading, Ill see if it helps ... if not ill sell it, or i will save it and set up a base station or save it for a friends car or something
    That Total: 56

Total For My Soon To Be [ a day or two] $154 That will get an awesome, Awesome set up! i think the tweaking and peaking is awesome.....

But besides bragging and being so very happy/excited with my new set up, i think it all depends on what you want, i mean the Cobra 19 with the magnet did me pretty good on some days. But My New Set up seems to be doing exceptional all the time! so... it depends on how much you wanna spend, which also says what you want from it.

take what you want from it
