describe best... because each description of best will change the anwser... im sure people have their own favorites that are "better than the rest" Which i have researched some with awesome features... But im more of the phiosophy "Buy a Decent, Working Radio, What ever you want, But Dont cheap out on the antenna system!"

it depends you want to have cool effects? a clear signal? looks cool... ?

Cool Depends On A Person's Desires...

If it won't make a "Monkey Made" antenna glow in the dark, I'd probably pass it up.

Seriously, any "off the shelf" ra-did-eo will do just fine, if it is properly connected to a well tuned antenna.

Right now I'm lusting for a Connex 4600 Turbo with the chrome case and jeweled knobs. Big talker and pretty dash decoration, as well.

best radio

I am surprised this hasn't had 10000 hits already there are more best then there are radios. It all depends on allot of factors. how much money you willing to spend what you want it for and what mode you want to operate on and the bells and whistles you want on it. over all a good cobra or uniden will serve you well and like the others have said a good antenna system matched and grounded and you are ready to go.

curious

Im curious about the replies on this also. I will be starting trucking soon and a cb was the least of my concerns. that was untill I read a thread where the guy explained how a cb can save you time and money. Thjat last thing I want is all the endless chatter to disrurpt my Blues playing on the cd player....but I sure dont want to be sitting in a long line of traffic listenting to it. I was thinking about buying a $40 cb at Walmart....will that do the job for me? Im not that cheap on things I want but that is not one thing I really want....but if I NEED to I will spend more. Let me know ole wise ones. Thanks in advance.

I dont really care what other people say, if you wanna use it on only a some what regular basis for talking to the traffic around you, you can get that $40 radio ... or one even less like a $30 midland that will get the job done, you just need a decent cable and antenna. which will only run you ... 50 maybe 60 bucks. ive got all kinds of internet resources on where to get Great stuff at cheap prices if your interested just pm me

$80-$100 will buy you a Cobra 29 Classic...most everyone will tell you that it is the best all around radio. It isn't a cheap little peace of junk. It has RF gain, Mic Gain, and SR caliberation bult in...you'll want that. If you buy a cheaper one without that stuff, you'll end up spending more later to get it. Just get the Cobra first time around if all you want is good CB communication. If you want more and become an enthusiest, you may want to step up to the bigger radions and you'll be looking at those galaxy's, ranger's, etc...

My set up is a Cobra 29 Classic (after using several others), a Wilson 2000 Trucker antenna, and get a good mic. I had the radio tweked & tuned at a CB shop off of exit 369..then drove past exit 350 (19 miles away) and decided to test out it's range...I called the CB shop on their channel and they said "loud and clear, bottome of the red" (referring to the meter). That was 20 fricking miles....

It works just fine....and will be a good all around set up for beginners without breaking the bank. Nobody wants to talk to a guy with too much power anyway..so this is fine..

The set up: Radio $80 (Pilot trucks stop), Wilson 200 antenna was about $50, mic was $30 (Astatic noise canceling) and $15 to have it tuned. All that for $175 !!! you'll be happy with it...

Figure out what you want first before spending more....some radios can be $300 alone..
